Find legtimate news, not rumors.  One place I saw looks like an Italian site speaking of Playstation World, which didn't show up anywhere from Sony yet.

Rewatch the conference when they briefly discuss their online. They specifically said online play would be free. I don't to rewatch the 2hr conference because I don't care that much, but I do remember them saying it.

I watched the conference and I don't remember seeing it.  Please point some clue to where in the conference (timeline) they said that.  As of now, it is unspecified from what I can tell.  I would like to see some specifics, because Googling only turned up an article, not written in English (Google translated it), where Playstation World was mentioned (not confirmed by Sony yet either, but may be coming) and talk of "free online play".

Please don't confuse "free" games or "Free to play" with only play being free.  It is different.

If it was said, no one is making mention of it.

Why are people acting like Sony will charge for online? They never implied that and its free on Vita.

Even if it did, I wouldn't mind, I have a PS+ subscription till 2015 and it gives me so much value already.

Question doesn't really apply. My potential purchase of a Wii U is independent of the price of Sony's and Nintendo's online. I think the same would go for most people.

And it's not that I'm settling for superior specs over free online. There's several factors that the PS4 and Nextbox will provide that we can be sure the Wii U cannot provide. I'm not sure why you chose only superior specs as that's one of the least important reasons for many.

I wouldn't necessarily pay for online play, much more of a single-player gamer, but I have no problem paying for PS+ so I'd still buy a PS4 over a WiiU.



It's all about the game.

It was mentioned more of a passing note when they were discussing the overall online system. I remember as it was a "ah-ha" moment when I heard it.

Really I don't think its an issue as I don't think anyone would choose between a Nintendo console and a Sony/MS console based solely on the price for online play. Especially if later in the generation WiiU loses all big 3rd party support or even the possibility of such an event happening.
