They're definetly surprised at the 8GB GDDR5 ram.

Sony isn't what it used to be. Do you really think Microsoft is gonna let Sony have the upper hand on third party software, which is what made them in the first place? Not likely.

Well considering the direction they're taking and putting entertainment over games. Yeah. I think they're taking the support they have now for granted.

I don't think they are. In fact; I think this is what they were hoping for all along, both Nintendo and Sony showing their hand first, this allows MS to counter and act somewhat according to the public reactions.
The core design won't change but they can add last minute changes that could work wonders, such as launch price, fees, used game playback, extra content for streaming, securing more 3rd party DLC or time exclusives etc.

Overall, MS are in a really good position, by far the best of the three, going into the 8th generation of home consoles.

If you take it as being accurate, then Microsoft has the advantage of knowing PS4 specs well ahead of time, and can adjust PR as to ensure that they prove they have the better console - after all, why panic when your opponent has already made their move?

It's too late to make any major changes to these consoles. What you see is what you're going to get. Microsft could increase their 8GB of RAM but it would be pointless since quantity isn't the problem here, its bandwidth.

...But somehow doubling the amount of ram was somehow viable for the PS4, but not changing the type of RAM for the next Xbox? Really?

I'm not an engineer, but that really doesn't make sense to me. Adding more room for memory requires a major design change. I don't see how that's any different than if Microsoft did the same thing.
