Only because I still prefer not looking down then back up. I just don't see the value. I don't even gain any signifigant time since over the method I described. I have never seen the value in two screens. I still didn't like the second screen on the DS for that reason as well and it had more reasons to exist (I own a DS).

Directing a cursor is much less friendly than touching the icon you want, that's a given though.

It is a given, but worthwhile imo. Still, id much rather the touchpad just do stuff like gestures, swipes, etc.

While I know your OP is satire, I honestly agree that the touchpad seems pointless.

I FUCKING HATE TOUCHPADS AND SHIT LIKE THAT ON LAPTOPS.

They are crappy and inconvenient. A mouse is 1000000000000x better in every way. As such, I don't see how this tiny touch pad will help in a game in any way beyond pointless gestures that in reality mimic the "waggle" crap forced on Wii.

Don't compare this to the backpad on Vita because in that you are looking at the same plane as the backpad and thus its a 1:1 comparison like a touch panel on front.

I am reserving final judgement until I see some games, but at this point it seems like it will be never used... same as the six-axis crap in current DS3.

You probably hate touchpads because you want the buttons, am I close? I was once like you, but they started using touchpads as a button itself on modern laptops I suddenly found no need for a mouse anymore.

Sixaxis' major flaw was that it not only had no direct OS navigation purposes it did not have any apparent applications to gaming. The touchpad easily enhances OS navigation, speeding it up signifiganty over just using the analog sticks. As for gaming, there are some relatively easy to understand uses in _some_ types of games.

The touchpad is a cheep _addition_ not a primary means of input. It just does not compare to the Wii U Gamepad and its not suppose to be.

I'd like to see you play computer games with a touchpad.

Set aside your mouse and go ahead and play a FPS, a RTS, or anything.   Have fun, I know I woulnd't be.

well it makes the controller look a bit more fancy. other than that seems pointless

I think I am going to take a rest from this site.

Um. That would be just dumb. Even the Wii U Gamepad does not get used in the way you are talking about.

I'm not talking about the PS3 controller.

YOu said you prefer a laptop touchpad over a mouse.  I said have fun playing computer games with a laptop touchpad.  I guarantee you would plug a mouse into your computer to play games.   Touchpads suck

The only thing i can say is that web browsing should be easier with a touchpad than with the Dualshock. For gaming, however, it seems utterly worthless. They'll probably charge $60 for it too. -_- Has it been confirmed that the PS4 will support the DS3?

I actually tried playing Warcraft III for a period of time just to get more skillful with the touchpad. It was bad....

And i'm saying I would never consider even conceiving of such a thing. I do not game on laptops. Desktop PC all the way, every day. I would not even consider using a laptop keyboard for gaming. Get real.

For day to day use of normal OS usage, browsing, etc. The touchpad works just fine.

For consoles though, we have a mostly traditional controller with all the buttons and analog sticks in the right place, with a touchpad for _added_ but not primary use in gaming and OS navigation.

Oh ok, good.  Was worried for a second you were somehow delusional and preffered gaming with a touch pad.

But the only thing I can see the touch pad doing on the ps4 wil be for zooming in on things.  I mean the joysticks can go up and down or left right and navigate the screen good enough.  But the touchpad woudl help with pinching or stretching out the image.  Though seems like something could be just done with L or R trigger to zoom in or out.

But we'll see.  My problem isn't the touch pad, its that I have no idea why its there.  Sony spent 2 hours and not once brought up a reason for it.  THey never used it, ect.  Thus its left all to speculation on our parts on how it could help or is a pointless expense.

Part of me kinda wanted a touch screen its looks fair cool on the Wii U, But I guess the 8gig of ram will do :)
