Besides the fantastic sony fans- general opinion is fairly subdued. Not what i was expecting :(

I'm not sure what you were expecting, but it was pretty much expected really. Outside of gaming forums and in the "real world" as it were, the reaction has been far from overwhelmingly warm.

I was expecting a much more warming reception :( When the Wii U  was announced it was all over the news down in australia. I was jumping around calling my friendo's to turn to the channel. I turned the tv today expecting the same thing to happen for the ps4. It got nothing not even a brief mention.

I guess so, but then again we are quite a way away from the launch yet. PS3 got a brief mention on BBC News, but only on Click, today. However, the Wii U at E3 2011 had a special piece in the main broadcast with analysis from websites, magazines etc.

Perhaps the hype just...isn't there?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

This is most certainly the highlight from the OP:

Spong:

Most exciting is the share button. The PS4, we're told, will sneakily and transparently monitor and buffer our last 15 minutes of gameplay. This will be a boon to all those who think there is not enough inane video drivel on YouTube.

It was very underwhelming with basically no new type of game or revolutionary feature that will get the attention of the mass market. I mean the biggest thing coming out of the conference is the amount and speed of ram it has which most people would ignore anyways.

In some ways the PS4 reminds me of Vita (not that it will sell as poorly because it obviously won't) in that it basically brings nothing new to get more people interested in it. All I really see is Sony setting themselves up to take losses or just eeking out a profit for years to come.

They were smart to include the double camera though as they'll no doubt be able to copy the new features that the competition will bring to attract more people.

I guess sony are not the technology giants they use to be :(

Bet with ninjablade:

Ninjablade wins if the next 5 multiplat on the wii u are inferior to the 360 version.

I win if one of the 5 mulitplats are on par or superior on the Wii U.

That NYT post really pissed me off

I have a bad feeling about the ps4. With the specs the console isnt gonna be cheap. I think the general consumer will ignore in its infant until it becomes a reasonable purchase. Sony needs to be smart with the pricing.

I really liked the press conference.

Square Enix were a waste of time though and I'm not sure on what mm was on about.

Better pick up the phone, because I called it!

As usual, Sony fans are too predictable. They hype up the event to levels that Sony could never realistically deliver on.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Boring show, but at least E3 is setting out to be good for all companies
