Forums - Sony - PS4 cpu underpowered?

The fun thing about it is that they are using x86 instructions.. that is 32b machine standard.
but they have 8gigs of memory.. so either they have to have a dynamic memory pointer of some sort or some custom instructions that allow them to use all of the memory.

X86-64

The CPU is weak that's why there are 8 cores ;) It is weak by nowadays standards but I think it's sufficient for gaming - otherwise MS and Sony wouldn't have picked it for their systems ;) Benefit is also that it won't use much power.

PAE, X86-64... what was your point?

PAE is not even necessary. If it's based on Jaguar, it's a native 64 bits architecture.

Jaguar is a 64 bits architecture. Nowadays almost every X86 chip sold is 64 bits compatible, everyone but some atom models.

Do you know that X86 began as a 16 bits architecture with the Intel 8086? PS4 16 bits confirmed.

@OP .. hey man dont say things like that.. you crazy!.. sony fans are foaming in the mouth at this point in time.. let them enjoy this!.. =)

I know it is not necessary but even if it wasn't PAE is implemented since "ever" in CPUs.
