Forums - Gaming Discussion - Diablo III Fans Are Not Reacting Well To The Game’s PS4 Announcement

Kotaku

One of the surprises at tonight's PlayStation 4 reveal was the announcement that Blizzard's previously PC-only Diablo III will be coming to both PS4 and PS3.

This has led plenty of disgruntled Diablo III players to make themselves heard on Blizzard's official forums. While many simply voice disappointment about seeing a PC exclusive ported to console, user SmashCrunch articulates a broader, more astute gripe: That it's entirely possible that Diablo III was built for consoles from the start.

From the Diablo III forums:

Diablo 3 was setup to be a console game.

The reason only 4 players are allowed into a game is for 4 controllers.

The reason the quests make you walk in a linear closed circuit as opposed to big open worlds, is to keep your buds next to you on the same screen.

The reason for no skill points or complicated number crunching? To make console players happy.

The reason you have 4-5 skills on your bar at once? Very easy to use an Xbox/Ps3 controller to use skills.

The reason no runes / complicated item mechanics exists. Simply wouldn't be fun for console gamers.

The reason you can't host a named game? Auto join for console users.

The reason for achievements in game? It's popular among console / COD fans.

The reason for passive skills? Perks like Call of Duty uses. Everyone unlocks perks and uses their favorite ones.

PC gamers are just beta testing for the console release so it wont be full of bugs. That's how ActiBlizz intends to make the real money.

Also explains why the game doesn't have VoIP for Pc gamer chat.

Diablo 3 is the modern Call of Duty of ARPG's.

There are some users in the thread offering counterpoints, but it's hard not to see the truth in some of those observations.

Interesting, feel sorry for the big Diablo fans I guess but I for one don't buy Activision games regardless.

Sheesh, do the daans of Diablo not know what Diablo is?  It is Nethack meets Gauntlet.  Blizzard took the original idea of a turn bsed game and made it real-time.  It was NEVER intended to be a seriously in depth RPG.  Sheesh, Blizzard has World of Warcraft, a cashcow, for the RPG side.  Why don't they get it?  Oh well, whatever...

whoever wrote that just sounds like some ridiculous clown who thinks its his right for a game to stay on pc

Uh.. pretty sure they're comparing Diablo 3 against the previous Diablo games. And they DO have valid points, even if they tend to come across as a whiny bunch of gamers.

gott check the forums out now LOL

And?
Blizzard-Activison already took the money and ran
This was the best selling single console/pc/3ds/vita title in 2012 correct? IE not counting Black Ops 2 360+PS3 sales and just on one platform.

It's just that simple.

For all the elite PC snobs upset that their precious Diablo is no longer "PC exclusive"...

Whoops!  Where were all you haters 15 years ago???

Next thing you know, they'll be complaining about Blizzard putting Starcraft on consoles too.  Oh wait...

Haha... that "Only For.." logo at the top is hilarious!!!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Are all of the Fan Bases just turning into whiny people now?

What's next? Nintendo gamers whining about too much Mario? (Congrats, Nsanity. This is my 16'000th post!)

There may be some validity in there, but the part I would take issue with is some sort of conspiratorial belief that somehow Blizzards did what it did with Diablo 3 because they had a secret deal with Sony in the works.  What I see is they took it the way they did, because they have World of Warcraft, and weren't interested in having another more heavy RPG to compete with it.  Also, I can't say I ever saw Diablo as a heavy RPG franchise anyhow.  It was/is a loot run with stand building.
