Dafuck, surely it doesnt work like that?

lol no... Sony can make a contract deal massive production for x thousand units per xxxx dollars.

Anyway my thread shows the cost for 8GB GDDR5 $110-140... the most expensive component in the PS4.

So how do we know how much that 8GB will cost? Some even said it wasnt possible with the architecture being the way it is

You have the fixed cost for each module of RAM... ~$8 per 512MB module.

What the hell is a 512MB module? gddr5 rams come as 1GBit or 2GBit chips. The new Nvidia Titan has 24 of them, the PS4 has 32 now.

..and lol at the guy with the "Sony odered thousands of chips".  Whatever Sony manufactures for day one, it will be at least 3 million units (assuming Japan and US gets first try) 3 million x 32 chips = 100 million gddr5 chips minimum order. (that makes it a lot cheaper, though, than what NVidia has to for over for the few Titan boards).

The Eurogamer article stated Sony could be using the new 512GB modules (4GBit chip) and somebody in gaf said these chips are close to be released... so for a November launch Sony can be using it.

Speculation of course.

Anyway you have no proof Sony is using 32 chips too can be using 16 chips. My guess is these will be brand-new but ordinary 4gbit chips, someone just promised they could deliver them by then.
