Forums - General - Fast food differences between countries

@fordy

I think prof was at some healthy Mcdonalds or a Mcdonalds that fits that specific area's culture because the one I was at had all that great protein, from beef to bacon. Some fast food chains will make subtle differences like that based on location. For example I know there are some KFC restaurants in London that cater to the muslim population (no pork, halal meats, etc).

I'm not familiar with what exactly happened in that merger but, only recently heard of it, but I don't even know if there are still chains called Checkers in the U.S. If you google checkers you always get Rally's. The one I'm talking about overseas is still called Checkers. I would have to do more research on the merger.

in the Philippines and other countries in asia... they sell rice in McDonalds, KFC, etc etc...
also in the Philippines instead of lemonade they have pineapple juice...

mcdonals also have spaghetti...

they use the gravy on fried chicken in all the fast food... lots of them

all the servings are Super SMALL...

Nice! Is the rice a side dish, like fries?

Is there a reason why Lemonade isn't around, or is it just that pineapple juice is more popular?

lemonade is not popular in the philippines... they usually have pineapple juice and/or lemonade.....  i dont think they even grow lemons there

Interesting. How is the rice consumed? Usually at, for instance, a KFC, the only cutlery that's needed is a spoon (for the potato and gravy, and that's if you decide not to scoop it up with the chips). Do the fast food joints provide any complimentary cutlery for this?

Localisation does influence a lot of menus, it seems, especially if there's an abundance of a product. (It's how we ended up with Vegemite. Lots of leftover yeast extract from the local brewery).

I've never seen or heard of Lemon farms/plantations here in the Philippines, but pineapple farms are abundant. Lemon Iced tea, Pineapple, and Orange juice are more widely available than Lemonade.

Spoon and Fork are the primary utensils here. Rarely do we use knives, but fastfood chains provide these 3.

As mentioned, serving here is small, but I think it's relatively cheaper per serving. I remember when I was in Germany, a "normal" McDonald's burger there looks as big as a "special" Quarter-pounder here. Of course I couldn't find a cheese burger there that costs about 39.00 PHP (less than  a dollar).

I did a search on the company. Apparently, the company still has a Checkers in Michigan (ironically, it USED to be a Rally's)

As for the McDonalds, that's a pretty interesting take. It might be up to the franchisor on what they decide to put on the menu. I'm guessing you'd find, for example, no McDonalds in India daring to sell beef burgers....

When I last went to the US (Florida) McDonalds let you have free refllls on soft drinks, plus the has Dr Pepper as one of the drinks.

In UK we don't get free refills or Dr Pepper.

There were probably other differences, but Dr Pepper is my fav soft drink and that combined with the prospect of unlimited amounts of it is all that stuck in my head.

We don't even have Dr Pepper as a choice in ANY restaurant! We need Dr Pepper. Free refills of Dr Pepper? I'm running that store DRY!

Hungry Jacks used to do the refill thing (I dunno if they still do), but if you dined in, you could buy a small soft drink and refill it as much as you like from the dispensers. It was great.

In England we have a restaraunt called Chicken Cottage which is like a dirtier, though tastier version of KFC.

In Amsterdam they have a place called FEBU where you buy a vile, luke warm "croquet" from a little hatch by inserting coins and pressing a button. It tastes of vomit. Can any Dutch people here confirm this exists? Is this disturbing food outlet exclusive to Amsterdam or are they all over the Netherlands?

Too much planning, and you'll never get anything done.

Mos Burger in Japan is delicious.

Burger King in Japan has all sorts of cool special items. They have a Ringo Whopper with a big slice of apple on top of the burger. They also have a charcoal Whopper where they mix in ground-up bamboo charcoal in the dough for the bun. The bun is completely black!
They also have crazy customization options and have a picture in every location of a Whopper with 8-10 burger patties.

Also this Whopper with 1050 slices of bacon:

It's all over the country, called Febo

Never knew it was unique. It's actually featured in the movie Dark city when he goes to pick up his wallet.
