Exactly, that's just simple marketing that has been around all the time. Sony is paying this websites and the FIFA to have their ads in there (Twitter and Facebook are free). The "hype" comes when a website (that's not gaming related) talks about and praise the new system. When people (not gamers) go out of their way to post a comment on Facebook or Twitter about the console then it becomes hyping.
The number of ads does not reflect the hype of people since those are being paid by Sony (or any other company for that matter).
Edit: I want to know this news articles you are speaking off. In most non-gaming realted websites I have only seen 1 article mentioning that Sony announced a conference that may be about the PS4...and that's it, no mention of the PS4 (or the conference) was given after.
Nintendo and PC gamer

The head of Square Enix is said to be in NY so I believe he'll be there for the event.
CROSS YOUR FINGERS FOR VERSUS!!!!
I have a PS3 and see no reason to get a PS4 in the future. I only get Playstation for its RPGs. Don't get your hopes up everybody. I guess I'll be able to give a full explanation tomorrow if they announce the PS4 and show me why I should get one.

You're talking about 2005, but Wii didn't release until Q4 2006. At E3 2006 and after that, -well before Wii came out- anything and everything even remotely connected with Wii was utter hysteria. Madness. It was the hot item, and everybody was talking about it. Even trying to deny that is just... awkward. |
I am talking before Nintendo said a word about the GameCube Successor. Sony hasnt said anything about the PS4 yet not even the codename was announced. So it would be pointless to compare it to the timeframe after Nintendo gave information of any kind about the Wii.
The whole point of the thread was to ask if any console was as hyped before anyone knew anything about it and the answer is: yes the PS2
So what happens if they don't announce the PS4 on the 20th?
Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

There was one on the denver post and another on msnbc. I don't go hunting for news articles though. They were just basically "sony is set to make an announcement on the 20th"
As for the media hype, there isn't really anything because they have no material yet. All that will come tomorrow post announcement. News sources don't really report on speculation. Sony didn't rent a venue that holds more than 2,000 people to invite industry folk. This announcement is for the public and they will make sure they have media there to report it to get the news to the public
(If this is a multiple post i'm sorry my interent went real wacky)

| Chark said: Well the "See the Future" video has 6.7 million views. And that's just the main one, I've seen another that has over 1 million. The evolution videos almost average 400k views. Facebook has over 400k people talking about PlayStation right now. Only 160k for Xbox, 52k for Nintendo, just for comparison. |
You act as though this is surprising? Playstation is obviously going to be the buzz word today, and likely for the next week or so. Then it'll be the Xbox's turn. When similar statistics to this come out showing the 720 miles ahead of everything else I wonder if people will be so quick to jump on it then.
Also, I can't be the only one to have an underlying feeling of the event being a massive letdown, surely?

Are you saying I'm doing anything other than showing the numbers? I can't gauge if that is a lot or a little and niether can you unless you put something up against it.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
