Well, at least they put the money SEGA gave them into a much better game lol. Borderlands 2 is one of the best games of 2012. Plus I got it for just $25 on Black Friday, so Gearbox didn't get all of my monies lol.

I also got it for $25 at best buy. LOL

Got mine for free with my graphics card.

But NightDragon83.  Don't you think maybe the game was better because all the money was spent on making it.  Also I believe it says Gearbox didn't even make Aliens but had another team make it for them while they worked solely on borderlands 2.   Gearbox basically just took the Aliens game that another team made and made sure there were no bugs.   Then handed the game to SEGA

Basically criminal all around.

Suddenly I don't feel like supporting these guys anymore. After I finish Boarderlands (which I got for free on PS+) I'm done with them. I was really looking forwards to that Aliens game.

DId you pick up aliens?

Not quite. GRX was developer chosen by SEGA to develop aliens. They  funded with SEG's money to do it. I do why but SEGA allowed GBX to push back development of Aliens in favor of GBX own projects while they passed the project to a bunch of nobodies but reportedly kept the fund money. GBX is the official of the game they just chose not to work on it in favor of Borderlands.

The sad thing is, not buying the game hurts SEGA, not Gearbox.  Gearbox already got paid to make the game (or in their case, not make the game)

SEGA is now the people who will get hurt or succeed financially based on sales.

I say everyone instead boycot Brothers in Arms Furious 4.  That's a game made by Gearbox and published by Ubisoft.  Both those companies need  swift kick in the ass right now.

i love both borderlands but if this is true gearbox should be sued

Having hard time understanding your sentences.

Here is how I interpreted the situation.

1. SEGA approached gearbox and said "want to make an Aliens game" to which Gearbox agrees

2. SEGA gives Gearbox "x" amount of dollars to make Aliens game.

3. Gearbox then hands the Aliens project over to "Timegate" and has them work on it, meanwhile Gearbox continue making their game Borderlands 2 with the extra money they recieved from SEGA to work on Aliens

4. Gearbox releases Borderlands 2 and then gets the game Aliens that Timegate was working on back.

5. Gearbox works out any big kinks in the game and makes sure there is no game ending/freezing bugs

6. Gearbox hands Aliens game back to SEGA and say "we are done"

^ reportedly yes

Oh I meant boycott them in the general sense. I'm done with Gearbox, period. After I beat Boarderlands from PS+ that's it. I'll support Sega some other way, possibily by picking up Vanquish and Bayonetta after I make a few purchases next month (I already planned to ge them anyway).

If it is one thing I have learned is that consumers have a lot of power in numbers. DmC is the most recent example of this notion. Hopefully, people apply the same concept with Gearbox and their future endeavors. What they did is wholly unacceptable and they won't get my money.

As for Ubisoft .... lol I'm not a Wii U owner yet so it doesn't sting me, but I understand (assuming that is what you were alluding to).

EDIT

Sorry I overlooked that. No I have not. I had the pre order in though, but then I decided to pull it when I heard it had an embargo. Shortly after I saw the reviews and I played it by my friend (360 version). Not worth the time, money or effort.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

I agree that it's a dick move if that's exactly how it went down, with Gearbox focusing only on Borderlands while shoving the game they were supposed to be developing for SEGA off to a 2nd rate developer.

What I don't understand is that if the game wasn't ready yet because Gearbox simply couldn't focus enough resources on it, then 1) why did they take on the project in the first place, and 2) why couldn't the game just simply have been pushed back 3-6 months or so until it was polished enough for retail release and so they could implement all of their original ideas that they wanted to put in the game?

From SEGA's point of view, wouldn't you rather have released a good game that was delayed for a bit, rather than a bad game released in the dead of winter that nobody is going to want to pick up now?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Here is how I interpreted the situation.

1. SEGA aquires Aliens license in 2006 and immediately announce that they are working on a game with Gearbox before pre-production had even started

2. SEGA gives Gearbox "x" amount of dollars to start making an Aliens game.

3. Some time in 2008 the game was put on hold (and Gearbox lay off staff) and then rebooted with Gearbox announcing.

"We've made some transformative changes and yes, that's meant some talent changes, but that's not the real story. The true relevance of the story will actually be irrelevant until we release our next game (Borderlands), at which time I hope there will be a lot of interest in what we've done that can produce such results."

Up for interpritation but sounds like SEGA was having cold feet this was also around the time that they pulled the plug on the Aliens RPG that Obsidian were working on. The success of Borderlands probably convinced them to keep the project.

4. Gearbox releases Borderlands which becomes a massive hit and imediately push into full production of DLC and a sequel. This left no room for Aliens aparently so more outsourcing.

5. Gearbox shows off a target render of what they want the game to be including a brand new defered lighting engine called "Red Ring" that was later scraped and show it off claiming it's gameplay. This demo looks nothing like the final game.

6. According to rumour Gearbox delayed the game when they saw the state the game was in and focused their attention to polishing BL2 which was also nearing deadline, then they spent the six month delay to polish the build that they had which was mostly outsourced focusing on fixing just the important bugs as there was no way SEGA would give them another extention due to all the delays.

6. Gearbox hands Aliens game to SEGA to meet the deadline and SEGA puts the game out as it's way over budget already even tho they know it's a peice of shit.

There corrected a bit
