A lot of Wii customers never looked up the Wii or read about it before buying it.  It was all direct advertisement and word of mouth or they got to play it as some else's house.  In that sense, a large group of potential Nintendo customers only know what is put in front of them.  If there is product confusion, it is entirely on the producer to clarify.  There is no sense in blaming the customer.  If people don't really understand the Wii U at face value then the responsibility falls on Nintendo and/or whomever is running their ad campaign.  If the casual crowd had the wrong impression from the start, it's up to Nintendo to change that impression, or it never will.

I'm pretty sure there is confusion, though I don't know how much.  First, with the focus completely on the gamepad, I know for a fact that some people are unaware that it can also play like a Wii.  Second, again because of the focus being on the controller, some people are likely unaware that it's a different console rather than just something you buy and hook to your Wii.

All that being said, I do think it's kind of a shame that Iwata might have to step down with the 3DS doing so well.  Hopefully the holiday season can give the Wii U a boost.

What does that have to do with anything?

He's talking about the WiiU's very very low sales. Nintendo is heading into the wrong direction, their last financial report was very disapponting.

Why do you think Mario Kart and a 3D Mario will save the WiiU? The GameCube had those games and many more and it didn't sell very well.

Maybe the WiiU will follow the same path. I can see that happening considering the casuals abandoned Nintendo. (I may be wrong)

The Gameboy Advance sold way way better then the GameCube and they both launched close to each other.

We are facing the same scenario.
