“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

"Now they’re seen as a much more likeable and respectable company that doesn’t tell people to get another job."

They are?

As far as general perception goes, probably.  Sony is a huge underdog now, as opposed to looking like a monster corporation trying to crush little Nintendo.  Microsoft, of course, is considered one of the biggest bullies in the world, especially in Europe.  Sony is also coasting on a wave of good-will generated by PS+, which has earned them praise in an industry dominated by negative news.

It's all perception, obviously, with all three caring more about our money than our happiness.

Edit:  Oh, and Kaz > Howard Stringer.

Hilarious considering the thread I was just reading with links to all the uber-arrogant PR Sony is putting out right now.

Ps3 has more AAA console exclusives according to metacritic. Therefore it's the better entertainment center. (two points for anyone who understands this tribute).

I support sales. The "we don't know for sure" argument only goes so far. There's a measure of likelihood that we can get using sales numbers and expected cost estimates. Using those numbers we can come up to certain reasonable conclusions.

You can support him if you like, my feelings won't be hurt.

We can come to reasonable conclusions, which I believe mine have been. Then again, I'm not one to make wild claims, like I could have when Microsoft cut many of their studios.

I would like you to name those studios like actually post examples instead of making wild claims.

Microsoft closed some studios, Ensemble included. I thought this was a known, understood fact, rather than a "wild claim".

Some studios and yet you only name one Sony closed down studios Superbot,Zipper,Sony Liverpool.

It's probably worth pointing out that Sony are far more likely to close down studios by sheer virtue of owning more first party studios. The majority of Microsoft's development teams are 2nd or 3rd party.

Most of the studios that Microsoft have closed (Ensemble, Hired Gun, Aces studio) were actually PC based studios and in the case of Ensemble, were actually quite successful at the time.

Carbonated Games (not sure if 1st party or not)

Digital Anvil

FASA Studio

Ensemble

ACES Game Studio

All 3 companies have closed studios.  This is not new.

Looks to me like inFAMOUS and LBP both not only continue to improve upon their "promises", but are still garnering news as I type. MM and SP aren't causing issue for Sony, and the teams that were, have been disbanded. All esle can only be speculated.

Now your just regressing to that argument instead of the numbers argument, which was my entire premise. I am not talking about how they improve gameplay/promises with each release, im talking its sales over time. Gaming news reports on new developements, that in itself isn't noteworthy. Bottom line sales are what I was talking about. It would look very bad for Sony to drop them so soon after acquiring them. Id imagine they give them (and their IPs) a couple more tries before making any tough decisions. But thats speculation off course, and kinda off topic of my origional point, but I imagine that is what you wanted, to bring me into "your turf" so to speak.

My downward trend argument stands, regardless if you think I just spin whatever I want for my own viewpoint.

My whole point to you, which hasn't shifted even slightly, is that the numbers are meaningless outside of your personal opinion. You can prove that the sequels did less. OK, great, Gears of War 3 sold less than Gears of War 2, Killzone 3 sold less than 2, Final Fantasy XIII-2 sold less than XIII - so what? It's a grasping-at-straws stance at best and does little to prove that Sony's investment in those studios was a mistake. If LBP 2 and inFAMOUS 2 were major flops, like All-Stars Battle Royale (and we've see what happened to SuperBot since), then I could agree with you.

What the hell are you talking about? Battle Royal is doing Alan Wake numbers! And we all know that was a major success according to some people!

I think Sony cares about the gamer much more than Microsoft ever has.

On the theory that 0.01% > 0.001%?

He's kinda right. Sony takes far more risks with games, and creates far more than Microsoft would ever think to create. Their mind marketwise is squarely on the avid gamer and that can help but it can also hurt on a massive scale.

Yeah but when you task risks and don't follow up with money and marketing you become a murderer. What is the kill count on studios Sony has put down over the past few years?

But hey as long as some fan boys can say we have more games then you every thing is OK. I am never seen a fan base of anything brag about something and not buy it as much as Sony fans do.

What is the kill count on studios MS has killed? I'll start:

1. Ensemble Studios

your move

That is so true,  so many games released and so many failed because a very few bought them. 2012 was a disaster for Sony exclusives. Journey was the saviour but even them go multiplatform because they want to have an better financial situation something the Sony fanbase not delivered.

2. Aces Studio (Flight simulator)

Both of these were due to the "financial crisis". MS not immune, eh?

Next move

Journey devs only had a 3 game deal with Sony. Who wouldn't want extra sales? That's like saying Notch only went to XBLA because he was in a bad financial situation.

Pezus, Sony cut a lot more studios in the last couple years then MS has this gen.

And double or tripple sized those they have left.

So...PS3 has more Netflix use, Blu-Ray, 7.1 DTS Master-Audio support. Meanwhile, you have to pay a yearly price just to unlock most of the entertainment features on 360.

Yup... and MS doesn't release much exclusive software for Xbox 360 either

What is strange to me is that in terms of new console sales... the Xbox 360 continues to do better than the PS3 (especially in the US)

Maybe it's the "buy america" consumer patriotism, but on a product level... I don't consider the Xbox 360 to be anywhere near as good a value as the PS3.

You see, people have different opinion. I consider neither of the consoles to be good purchase values IMO, but I have an 360 because of some multiplats which are console-only and look/play better on the 360 than on PS3 and also the exclusives, which appeal to me more than PS3 ones, games like Magna Carta 2, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Nier, Halo, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, etc., that made me want to buy it, even if I didn't considered that the price was reasonable when I bought it.
