Forums - Nintendo - Kotaku: Don’t Look Now, But The 3DS Has Become The Best Gaming Machine Out There

Well, I must admit that 2013 doesn't look to have a ton of empty spaces in the schedule. Good thing I have a job lined up for me...

The library for 3DS is already great and can only get better.

Out of all the new systems (3DS, Vita, and Wii U) it's definitely my favourite.

I didn't realize this was already posted, oops.

2013 is when it is really coming into its own. I feel good about purchasing it as Nintendo shows (in time) that they support their handhelds and solid third party support. It may be the system I buy the most games on this year.

i like nintendo IP just fine, but i like a lot of other things too.  i don't see anywhere near the variety that DS had.    ..and the marketplace agrees with me.  don't get confused by 3DS winning the weekly sales charts.  the numbers show the 3DS in decline relative to the DS and the gap is growing faster each week.

again, 3DS's library is by no means dire.  but it's not something to aspire to either.

Now you're talking about something different.  The market doesn't agree with you because the 3DS doesn't have variety, but because there is more competition from iOS/Android and other mobile devices/tablets.  Dedicated handheld market is contracting, and we won't see the sales we saw during the DS days.  But back to the point, the 3DS library is just fine.  There's a ton of variety and the games are selling well enough.  There may not be a lot of games for YOU personally, but you can't really project that on others.  Besides, comparing the DS' 8-year old library to the 3DS' 2 year old library isn't the most fair comparison.  But again, when all is said and done, I expect the 3DS library to be just as good, if not better, than the DS' library.  It's already beating it 2 years in when you compare them.

EDIT:  Beaten by soriku

The 3DS has a stacked lineup this year, the best of any console easily, and we just got even more announcements like Mario Golf and a new Mario and Luigi game.

Now Nintendo needs to pick up the release pace with the Wii U and give us some big heavy hitters, and not just remakes of GameCube games.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

meh.

mario this. lugi that. donkey kong, yoshi, kirby, and AC too. they might cover a lot of genres but the diversity in appeal is quite limited. third parties haven't really embraced the 3DS like they did the DS. the library is far from dire but if this is to be the "best gaming machine out there" it only serves to illustrate how doomed the gaming industry is.

Totally agree!

It's not there yet. When I look at the library, I see 3 games that I absolutely need to own. FE, Resi Revelations, and Kid Icarus. SM3DL was poor, as was NSMB2. MK7 also felt very rushed.

The system is looking to have a killer year. I'll be ready to talk about it's greatness after I've played Zelda and Metroid.
