Forums - Gaming - Industry 'Not Sustainable' For Xbox 720 & PS4

Between the 3, Id say Nintendo at this point. Basically become a handheld giant, worse case scenerio.

Between MS and Sony, its just common sense MS as a corporation is far more sustainable then Sony and will dump whatever cash they have to to keep Xbox viable.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Yeah well that's why the Wii was created. Did people care? no. And they won't this time.

The industry is looking to drive itself into the ground. I'm totally k with that, we need to hit a restart button.

Why can't they all survive? We all thought the 3DS was going to fail as well, then Nintendo worked its magic. Long before the Vita or Wii U was failing. They will do the same with the Wii U by this Christmas.

Handhelds are different though. So far WiiU is following Dreamcast patterns. If WiiU sales fall on the announcementsw of the Xbox and PS4, like Dreamcast did when PS2 was announced, then it could mean trouble.

MS will survive. Looks to be either Nintendo or Sony.

Microsoft still has the least motivation to stay in, although with the home computing environment shifting under their feet, they might become more reliant on Xbox

Nintendo will bankrupt themselves altogether before leaving the console business.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

From what little I saw from this guy, GAF takes him seriously and has made entire threads off his comments. The one I saw was concerning Dice and the fact most third parties including EA were abandoning Wii U ports. Still, I take his belief as no more importance than Pachter's, anyone could predict this and it may or may not come true. Too many variables to know. Not even close to fact just asRol's and Chunk's big predictions here are not.

I the entire game market is entering a phase of reorganization, and not to mention a slow moving economy. All three console makers will face slow moving sales, and in turn will put pressure on the publishers. We will see more developers and publishers closing their doors, or switching to the mobile market where changes need to be made or that market will not be sustainable either.
We are not going to see the graphical polish from what any of the four dominate platforms are capable of, with the exception of a few games from the major publisher. The old market tendency of producing games that have visuals over substance needs to be abandoned. (i.e. short games with as much visual candy you can throw.)
On the gameplay side they need to simplify mechanics. Just because you have several options to map input to doesn't mean you have to use them. Some of these developers need to sit down with the blockbuster older games and ask themselves why are these games fun and how can we translate it to our new games.
