You can't tell me that, I won't believe you!

I love the Wii U / Dreamcast comparisons being made. These people have no clue what the hell they're talking about. SEGA already had one foot in the grave when the Dreamcast launched, and even with the successful launch, the Dreamcast was essentially a "stop-gap" console and couldn't survive the onslaught that ensued once PS2, GC and Xbox were released. Hell, the DC didn't even make it long enough to face the GC and Xbox launches... SEGA pulled the plug a little more than a year after the system's US launch.

The Wii U is struggling to take hold in the market no doubt after a relatively quiet launch and, more importantly, no big releases out right now. The 2nd half of the year will be a different story as we see what else Nintendo has in store as well as what Retro and other studios have been cooking up. The Wii U isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Always amusing to see how many people want Nintendo to fail, and they want them to fail so that their games become 3rd party on their system.

If Wii U fails. Then Nintendo will be handheld ONLY. They will NEVER release their games on another hardware than their own.

I actually agree with you on this one. Though I hope that SONY maintains the PSV for a good couple years at least. I really love my PSV, though I don't use it for actual mobile gaming (I usually just play it at home, plugged into the wall even).

Microsoft seems to have the most problems moving forward, not just with the next XBOX, but their entire business range of products is being hit hard on all fronts. Their gaming and web (c#.net) divisions at this point are the only bright spots.

I can only agree with this. If Nintendo has two very bad gens in a row, they'll probably only focus on handhelds, and if MS continues to lose a shit load of money on x3ox they'll pull the plug and simply make it a multimedia box, probably without the gaming aspect. And Sony will only leave the console business if the PS4 will flop hard and lose them money (which I highly doubt).

I agree with everything he said. EXCEPT one of the big 3 dropping out. I think they'll push on a generation or two yet. The push for more power and the expectations it created has caused an unrealistic and expensive expectation that every game should be a Triple A game. Just like how it was with Hollywood a few years back.

They're trying to mitigate this with DLC but I don't see that working, and indie games haven't really caught on console scene wise.

No reason for Nintendo to drop out considering how much software they sell and make off it.  Even if Wii U Ends up at Vita levels of sales Nintendo will probably profit.

I don't see Sony or Nintendo getting out. I guess I can see Microsoft getting out maybe. 

For me, games on phones and such don't replace console/PC games. I much rather buy and play a God Of War or Mario game over Angry Birds. I understand that developing console/PC games are extremely expensive for companies. And if they don't sell well those companies can have to close up their doors. But most games that are good games do become profitable. Games like Halo, Uncharted, and Mario are well put together and sell. Games like MoH Warfighter and RE6 aren't very good and don't meet expectation for both the Publisher and Consumer. 

The Vita isn't a fail yet imo. It is failing at the $250 price point same as the 3DS did. Whether the Vita will pick up when it gets a price cut is unknown. But it's hard to sell your handheld at the same price as your home console.

The Wii U hasn't been out long enough to know if it'll be a success. It may not outsell the Wii, but it doesn't have too either.

People tend to look at the PS3 as a fail as well. Partly because of it's launch and loss in market share. However it did successfully push Blu Ray and beat out HD DVD. And the PS3 still has years left in it and countries that still are PS2 heavy to sell it in.

But something has to change in the way we buy games in general. The $60 price of new games is a little high for companies to expect consumers to be buying multiple games in a span of 4 to 8 weeks. And people are uneasy on buying new IP's at $60 as well. Going with the block on used games with further turn away consumers imo.

I'd like to see both Sony and Microsoft  make a big push for digital games. Yeah Sony has been selling many new games over PS Store same day as the physical retail copies. But they got to...

A) Cost less

B) Be able to preorder sooner.

If they are retailing for $60 when they release in retail stores, they need to be $50 over PS Store. Sure they lose $10 at first, but that Digital copy can't be resold to Gamestop either. And They got to give consumers more than 2 weeks notice that there will be a Digital release. I can preorder new God Of War after last E3 but don't know as of yet whether they will even sell it over PS Store at launch. That needs to be fixed

I agree one console could drop out this new generation but i don't think it will be because of funds.. Though having the money to take losses and cut the price of a console will help it doesn't gaurantee that throwing money at a console will increase popularity
