Dear god those DQ7 numbers.
| BasilZero said: DQVII is a beast. They WILL announce DQVIII eventually for 3DS in the future which will more than likely be higher in sales than this. I just hope it comes out in the west :( |
Considering that they released all the DS remakes, that this game is definitely gonna sell more than them in Japan and that DQ is a better known brand in the West post-DQIX, I don't doubt it one bit.
Also, if they don't, I will cry. Really, really hard.

I find that the fact that games like Monpiece and Demon gaze popular on the Vita kinda show that niche games will sell on it well.
It also shows that they have no big mainstream title yet, at this rate it might become a niche-only.

Nintendo has something that people seem to want, and Sony doesn't: lots of great games. Not so long ago people said that 3DS wasn't more than a PSP with a gimmick, and look at the sales. |
Unlike fans on sites like this, Sony don't live in a vacuum. If you are going to say 'look where 3DS is now', then you also have to have the same view for the Vita. People who constantly go on about Sony dropping it are just wishful thinkers. Both hand-helds can do well and service their fan base. Tech wise, the Vita is more than a generation ahead of the 3DS and it will have a ten year lifecycle like every other Sony games device. I remember articles about the PSP being dead at 20 million, then 45 million, then 60 million, and now when it's 0ver 70 million. Anyone who considers it a failure just because it doesn't equal Nintendo's numbers is thinking incorrectly... same goes for the Vita.
The space is occupied, the PS4 is on its way and a price cut is imminent. Let's see what happens when Gaikai gets announced and other PS4 integrations get finalised before we call it a dud. Many Vita owners are very happy with what they bought.

PSP or 3DS weren't ever in the situation Vita is. Sony is now launching PS4, which console do you think most first party teams are going to be developing for? You need a continuous stream of good games to make a platform viable, and Sony isn't doing so. PSP had games in Japan, piracy/homebrew all over the world, that helped PSP sales a lot (and that killed the 3rd party games sales outside Japan)
Vita isn't occupying anything, whatever you say, and you can be a happy user but that doesn't mean that other customers will like the same things as you.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this point then, but I still say wait and see, as I would with people who are calling doom on the Wiiu at the moment. Higher tech requires longer development time. That's all I'll say.

So, what you are saying is that the next Nintendo handheld will suffer from a identity crisis, and won't be able to compete with PSV? Isn't way too early to call it doom? I know 'one must call doom on everything related to Nintendo', but this seems quite early. And by early I mean....nah.

I'm not suggesting Sony will dominate Nintendo in the next handheld race, what I'm asking is where do Nintendo go next. The obvious space they'd want to occupy would be better graphics, two analogue sticks, better online features and console integration -- the space that Vita already occupies. Sony were clever when they released the MOVE because they occupied the space that Nintendo would have naturally occupied, which, I believe is why they opted for the new space they've created. Vita may not be selling well, but if you see it as a place holder for that space, awaiting connectivity with the PS4, you could argue that Sony have deliberately released the Vita 'early' in order to have it in place for when the PS4 releases. 'Long gone'? Not a chance. A price cut is coming this year and if the rumours are to be believed so is the PS4. Let's wait and see before we judge ... or am I to take it that the Wiiu will be long gone too? |
Stores near me are already removing or downsizing their Vita section so ya I can't see it's been around for much longer at this rate.
