Nintendo has something that people seem to want, and Sony doesn't: lots of great games. Not so long ago people said that 3DS wasn't more than a PSP with a gimmick, and look at the sales. |
Unlike fans on sites like this, Sony don't live in a vacuum. If you are going to say 'look where 3DS is now', then you also have to have the same view for the Vita. People who constantly go on about Sony dropping it are just wishful thinkers. Both hand-helds can do well and service their fan base. Tech wise, the Vita is more than a generation ahead of the 3DS and it will have a ten year lifecycle like every other Sony games device. I remember articles about the PSP being dead at 20 million, then 45 million, then 60 million, and now when it's 0ver 70 million. Anyone who considers it a failure just because it doesn't equal Nintendo's numbers is thinking incorrectly... same goes for the Vita.
The space is occupied, the PS4 is on its way and a price cut is imminent. Let's see what happens when Gaikai gets announced and other PS4 integrations get finalised before we call it a dud. Many Vita owners are very happy with what they bought.
