Forums - Sony - Is Sony on a downward spiral?

Nostalgia hits this guy strong. Of course I love the PS1 more than any other console, but that's not Sony's fault. It's because back then I was a kid and it was much easier to awe me than it is now.

Also, times change. The Sony of old faced easier competition. PS1 fought Sega's Saturn and N64 which both came out of the game doomed. PS2, pretty much the same situation. With the PS3 not only Sony did a bunch of major mistakes, their competition also got everything right (Nintendo with Wii catching on, and Microsoft with good pricing, online, hardware, etc). The fact that the PS3 is top selling platform against Wii and 360 is pretty much a testament of how good Sony actually is.

If they are doing this well with PS3, imagine if they do everything right with the PS4.

That has nothing to do with what i said.

How? It has everything to do with what you said. Unless you called him a jackass for a different, totally unrelated reason...

Read the article and go read my post.

I'm pretty sure you would know which part of his article i was referring to.

Oh, but that's not true. Which puzzle game does Sony owns the IP? None that i know. Microsoft has Hexic, Nintendo has Ketzal's Corridors. RTS? Nope. Microsoft has Halo Wars, Nintendo has Advance Wars. Simulators? Nintendo has Steel Diver. Microsoft has Flight Simulator. I guess i could find a few other genres that Sony doesn't has a competing game.

They are the front running IP console. No other console has put out more IP's than them this gen. I would beg to differ. They've taken far more risks and reaped rewards as well as tasted defeat. This is the sign of a true warrior.

You'll have to point me towards it, I can't find anything jackass-y in his article.
Even after I re-read your post I still don't get why you said that.

I just hope we get that crazy Sony back nextgen, starting with Parappa 3, MediEvil 3, Ape Escape 4 and a bunch of other new crazy IPs that don't take themselves too seriously.

Oh, but that's not true. Which hack'n slash game does Sony owns the IP? None that i know. Microsoft has Ninety-Nine Nights, Nintendo has Pandora's Tower. RTS? Nope. Microsoft has Halo Wars, Nintendo has Advance Wars. Simulators? Nintendo has Steel Diver. Microsoft has Flight Simulator. I guess i could find a few other genres that Sony doesn't has a competing game.

Hack N Slash: God of War and Heavenly Sword. Sony has more competing games in various genres than Microsoft. They have numerous Action/Adventure, platformers, shooters, gameshow and casual titles to boot. Look harder if you plan on discrediting them. They've put out more IP's than Nintendo and Microsoft this gen.

He wants Sony to be like Nintendo. Make their games family friendly.

PlayStation never was family freindly ever. Before Sony enterd the console business, everyone saw video games as a childs toy but Sony proved them wrong and made the video game industry what it is today.

That jackass who wrote the article should know better.

"...Of course, Sony, as a company is still alive and kickin', and there is no doubting that they still have a quality platform with quality games to play, and they probably always will. And regardless of what some Sony cynics may say, I'm sure they won't be going anywhere anytime soon, and they will continue to be part of the gaming industry. But Playstation, as a platform, has a complely different identity now. As Playstation All Stars so clearly showed, Sony doesn't even have the rights to most of those old mainstays anymore.

That isn't to say that Sony isn't still an awesome hardware and software company. They still put out some quality entertainment and make some mean hardware. In reality, there is nothing horribly wrong about what Sony is doing...."

I don't know how he's a "jackass." In the least, he's complimented Sony.

half of those so called mainstays where never Sonys Ips to begin with the rights to crash bandicoot were given to universal interactive in return for a funding deal same thing happened with Spyro and Insomniac , Sonys involvment was they became the publisher

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

I find it hard to agree with an IGN article... but, I agree? Conflicting emotions overflow me!

I also find myself in a similar scenario. Bring back Spyro, Ratchet, Jak and Crash to their glory days dammit!

the 2 bold are an after thought, consistant with games made by Activision. R&C and JAK need new dev's with fresh ideas.

Sony is not on a downward spiral. they're just new, so the Sony of old are no more with all the Sony that's new.
