Realistically I don't think any company would be dumb enough to restrict the use of used games, ESPECIALLY after how violent the outcy has been online once it was announced. Granted, Microsoft HAS done some pretty terrible things with XBL Gold (holding back shit that other things give you free of charge), but I don't think they'd be dumb enough to do that.
I mean, what would be better? How would Microsoft OR Sony benefit from not allowing used games? the developers might be happier with them, but consumers won't buy as many games, not to mention sequels won't guarantee a return on investment or an improvement of sales, because Sequels rely on used or borrowed games to gain the user base.
Not to mention an 'always online DRM' deal would result in more broken Xbox's than the Red Ring of Death (think of all the temperamental 13 year olds who would flip out if their internet flickered while playing ranked Call of Duty).
Point being this has virtually NO chance of benefitting developer or publisher or hardware maker.
I think the only reason this rumor scares people is because there's been a war between gamers and developers the entirety of this generation to see who can screw the other over more. Piracy, DRM, locked DLC, entitled whiny shits boycotting....Gamers and developers aren't friends, they're enemies. Like business rivals doing all they can to screw one over the most efficiently, or an eternal game of cops and robbers.
It's really time for us to start to work together, which is why I try to support the devs that I respect, even if I don't play their games.
