Basically I want you to list your reasons for likeing and disliking Nintendo. I am going to tally the responses, and see what the biggest successes/issues Nintendo has. Try to be general, so I can combine your comment with others more easily.

I love Nintendo because of the games, handhelds are amazing, zelda, and they are freaking creative!

I hate Nintendo because... can't really think of anything

The only thing I hate about Nintendo is their over-reliance on Mario and such, but they do have a bunch of IP's sadly most of them don't sell and I somewhat doubt that they would sell if Nintendo advertise them.

Forgot to say what I love about Nintendo. They have good 1st party games and  their hardware is affordable and reliable. 

The Like

I love Nintendo because of the games they produce. Some of my best memories in gaming remain with them and from what I'm seeing I think they'll continue to deliver in that department.

The dislike

What I hate about them is their hardware. The last Nintendo home console I liked was the Gamecube. Wii ... meh. Wii U ... I'm warming up to it, but I didn't instantly like it like their previous systems (sans Wii of course).

First party games remain pricy for far too long. I well know about the laws of demand and supply, but it is still something I dislike :P

And the indifferent

I'm indifferent about no achieves/trophies so it's not a big deal. But it would be nice to have.

Love: Metroid, 3D Mario, Wind Waker and all Zelda games before it. Smash

Like: Pikmin, Fire Emblem, DK, Monolith JRPG's, F-Zero,Starfox Pokemon Virtual Console

Dislike: Archaic online, infrequent release schedule, underuse of 2nd tier IPs, Metroid Other M, Kirby. Hardware last 2 gens.

I hate Nintendo because:

-They created a monopoly with the NES, thus pissing off many 3rd parties in future gens.

-They only think about themselves when developing new hardware. Making things that much less appealing to 3rd parties.

-Way too much talent that could be used to create new IPs but is instead wasted.

-Forced control schemes that only ruin convenience (they're getting better)

-No achievement system.

Region locking... seriously, stop.

-Don't seem to try as hard to wow anymore.



I love Nintendo because:

-Without the NES I probably wouldn't be a gamer right now.

-Blew minds as we entered the 3D era.

-They're still one of the best developers in the business.

-Hardware is always unique, reliable, and efficient.

-Their handhelds have always been great with no exception.

Good:
Fun first party games
Family friendly
Price friendly
Local multiplayer "party" games
Very durable and reliable hardware
Miyamoto

Bad:
Repeatedly release first party games with little variety
Low spec hardware
Unnecessary gimmicks (stick waving, touch padding, 3D)
Worst online functionality
Region lock even on handheld now

Love:

- Evolving controllers. Nintendo don't just rehash the same controller, with every gen they give us new ways to interface with their games, ensuring that their consoles FEEL new instead of just looking new.

- Reliable hardware. Nintendo consoles are built to last, and can withstand things that would destroy most rival machines.

- They focus on gaming first and foremost instead of making me pay extra for unnecessary extra non-gaming features.

- Incredible first party games. I'd go so far as to say that collectively they're the best software developer in the world. Not a gen goes by without them adding games to the "greatest of all time" list.

- They do things very differently to Sony and MS, adding variety to the industry.

Hate:

- Pulling the plug on their consoles too soon. The N64, Gamecube, and Wii should all have been better supported in the years prior and following their replacement.

- They have a habit of making putting up barriers to third parties that scare them away from their systems, such as the N64's cartridges, the Gamecube's mini discs, and the Wii's TEV unit, and as a result haven't had strong third party support (on home consoles) since the SNES.

- They haven't made enough high profile new IPs over the last decade.
