Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/ascension-chronicle-godslayer/id441838733?mt=8

A deck building game with asynchronous multiplayer. Can't seem to stop playing it.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/baldurs-gate-enhanced-edition/id515114051?mt=8

Could have used a little more enhancement for iPad, but hey, it's Baldur's Gate. And it's still in active development.

Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/sky-gamblers-air-supremacy/id505730036?mt=8

No game has made me love jet dogfighting before. This is actually my favourite flight sim on any platform.

Waking Mars

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/waking-mars/id462397814?mt=8

A game of haunting mystery, exploration, and xenogardening. Think Super Metroid with less missiles and more ecology. Utterly unique and totally awesome.

Pinball Arcade

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/pinball-arcade/id455826958?mt=8

Painstaking digital recreations of classic real-world tables. Lighting could be better on iPad, but there aren't many games that'll put your retina display to better use.

Just download Pinball Arcade and Sky Gamblers.   Waking Mars looks really good too.

I was really interested in get Buldar's Gate but was put off by the reviews.  Are they fixing a lot of the issues with it?

Not like its our primary source for gaming.I personally only play these in my room as I try to go to sleep. Its also very cheap.

Its also where the industry is heading, even if we dont consider them actual competition to gaming handhelds.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Lux Touch - My first favourite and it was free, although it's just Risk I played this a lot during my initial two years.

ImageQuest - Got really hooked on this word game... and I don't really like these kind of games. Still need to finish that darn last level.

Jet Car Stunts - Driving and flying? This game caught be off guard in how well it worked!

Dark Nebula 1&2 - really nice tilting game, action and puzzle all in one. My kind of treat!

Super Hexagon - this is my latest favourite, twitch awesomeness that you have to try and try and try again.

I don't think I've seen a crash since the latest patch, and they've addressed the looting issue with a smart radius feature that checks for nearby containers. The two outstanding issues for me are slowdowns caused by heavy spell effects (Overhaul is working to fix this with a rewrite of the renderer, might take a while) and area exits being difficult to find if you don't know where to look. There was an amazing amount of progress between the launch version and the patch one month later, so I feel confident in saying it's only going to get better.

Ultimately, how much you enjoy BG on iPad may depend on how familiar you are with Baldur's Gate and 2nd Edition AD&D rules. There's little coddling, and it can really feel like the deep end if you have no familiarity.

I'm old school.  I was playing Pool of Radiance back in the 80's and finished both Buldar's Gates on PC.    Wouldn't mind playing them again.  If I could get the iPad away from my son long enough to play it.   Don't think it'd be playable on my phone.

Then yeah, go for it. You'll know where all the obscured building entrances are and such. The new NPCs are pretty cool, too. It's iPad only, so you'll need an iPrybar for your son's hands. Also, iPad 2 or newer recommended. BG is playable, but unstable, on 1st gen iPad due to memory constraints.
