Forums - Sony - Sony cuts ties with PSASBR devs

After reading the whole thing, I must say that people really need to trim those quote trees.

And, at first I was kind of thinking it was a good thing, Sony taking the project and pushing it directly. Probably they thought that the devs didn't deliver, and wanted to make sure that a valuable IP had to be better managed.

But, probably I was being too optimistic. Oh well.

But what about those legs everyone was talking about? When will they kick in?

Legs occur when a game has great reviews and/or incredibly positive word of mouth.  PSASBR has average reviews and average word of mouth.

Yeesh, ruthless Sony!

Do we even know the background of all this? Couldn't have this been planned from the very beginning of the game's development?

Honestly I was super hyped about this game for the longest time. I even spent many a day browsing, posting, and speculating on the gamefaqs board about which characters would be included.

I remember 50% of the arguments on that board were between who would be the FF rep. Cloud (fan wanted) or Lightning (Square jamming her down our throats). Turns out everybody was wrong lol.

I was there for the leaks from the beta. Hell I even looked into some of the files myself. I have a fondness for many of the characters in the game but honestly. The lack of ANY Jrpg character REALLY pissed me off and forced me to stop caring about the game. I know that may sound silly but I was really hoping that if Cloud didn't make it then at least Dart from Legend of Dragoon or Ico/Wander from the Team Ico games would have made it in. But nope, nothing.

Basically I had the game preordered and when it came out, I didn't even go pick it up. I wanted this game to do well but the cast felt lacking to me. I played the beta a few times at a friends house and it seemed alright. The stages were pretty cool too. I just couldn't get past there not being any characters from my favorite genre involved in the game.

And yet, we want MOAR power next gen. See how many developers also bite the dust for that reason.

This is an aspect of the industry I'd like to see dissected bit more.  What goes into development costs?  Why are they increasing at such an apparently rapid pace leading to higher thresholds of sales for success?

Now, my main guess is size of teams these days.  In the 80s a development team could be a dozen people, where as now routinely see 100+ teams.  So, what can be done to reduced the numer of people required to make a game?  It does seem if on Playstation 4 any game has to sell a million to break even and major titles have to sell five million the industry could be in big trouble and re-evaluate its entire model.

I made a thread about this, really good info about dev cost and how it could affect gaming.

Damn. Superbot deserves better. The game was pretty solid. Maybe if Sony marketed it showing actual gameplay instead of the stupid real life ads they always do, then people could have seen just how fun the game really is.

my thoughts exactly. i blame Sony for suck poor support/marketing.

agree 100% just one comercial showing Heihachi summon in Kuma to destroy everyone on the field before doing his little dance of screen would have doubled sales. Damn shame the game didn't feature the actual kinda faces which you would have wanted to see tho from the real games which made the Playstation brand what it is, Crash/Spryo/GTA3s main character and any final fantasy characters were so sorely missing from the roster, I guess the blame for who they roped in for the roster would have fallen to Sony really rather than superbot themselves.
