Forums - General - MBP's 2013 tech predictions

--> 2013 will be the year of the phablet. Smartphones will get bigger and bigger until they they settle at about an average screen size of 5 inches.

--> Apple will make the iPhone bigger yet again! I think there'll be a 4.8"+ iPhone unveiled around June time. Or perhaps they'll keep the base-level iPhone at it's current size and release a 5.4" iPhone/iPad phablet.

--> There will be a 7 inch Windows RT tablet from Microsoft (or one of their OEM's). The fact that there isn't one already is baffling. It's been clear since July last year that 7 inch tablets were on the rise and MS should've grasped this and had a 7 inch Surface released in time for Xmas 2012. The fact that they've not done it yet makes me suspicious...which brings me to my next point!

--> When MS announce the Xbox 720 they will also announce a 7 inch Xbox tablet. I think it'll be competitively priced and come with controller-like plug-ins for each side which will basically make it a tablet with an optional Xbox controller attachment.

--> The Wii U will sell under 7m units. This is due to consumers not taking to their tablet controller like they did to the Wii, the price, and various other market factors. Discuss that here if you wish: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=152200

--> Google will peak. The demise of Google will begin in mid-2013. Mark my words!

--> Apple MAY give iOS's interface a revamp. I'm 50/50 on whether I think this'll actually happen though.

--> Wii + X360 + PS3 will be down at least 50% YOY combined.

You spend the entire post saying how people are crazy about tablets and then you say this. lol

What's crazy is that it's actually true. Kind of sad, isn't it?

Out of interest, have you abandoned your "PSV will be discontinued" prediction for 2013?

I was kinda trolling when I made that prediction. But anyway, I'd say there is a 40% chance of the PSV being discontinued this year and an 80% chance of it being discontinued next year.

The first one is already a given, many phones are moving towards 5 inches now, there might a 6 inch Galaxy Note III this year!
iPhone will probably be made bigger just to compete with other phones.
I doubt a 7 inch Surface existing though, although they might to compete with Nexus 7 and iPad Mini.
Again, i'm doubt on Microsoft having a tablet controller for the new Xbox, it's not impossible though
Wii U will sell at least 10 million units i think
Google won't peak until 2015, Apple has peaked though and i think Nokia and Sony are on the rise
iOS probably will be remade but to what exactly?
Since PS4 and Xbox 720 won't launch until late 2013 or even early 2014 in some regions, current gen consoles will be down 20% on 2012 (25% for Wii, 20% for Xbox 360 and 15% for PS3)

My own predictions

PS Vita won't be discontinued at all, there's no doubt about it
3DS will be at least 70% of nintendo's hardware and software sales in 2013
Ouya will sell 5 million units
Steambox won't come out this year
Nvidia's project shield will fail, although the razer edge will succeed despite a very high price

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

@bolded, that's not what I mean. There's no chance the X720 will have a tablet controller. This 7 inch tablet I'm talking about is a seperate thing to the X720 altogether

@italicised, I just think the user interface will change

I agree with your predictions.

MBP loves his bing search.

I don't see Apple making bigger phone but than again Jobs is no more there to tell them not to do it.

The big ios revamp will come with launch of ios 8 (Iphone 6) but maybe revamp could be there selling point for 5S.

Rest of it is not bad.

Some are quite good. Some are quite... well... I don't know...

When I say Google will peak I mean the company, not nessessarily the search engine
