Forums - Gaming - GameStop to Close 500 Stores in 2013 - help BenV make it right again!

The main thing I dont understand is why some "core" gamers want us to fail.

We push more hardware out than pretty much anyone
We push out more software than pretty much anyone
We advertise the living heck out of new IPs and all titles to help drive their sales

Basically by saying you hope Gamestop fails you are litteraly hoping the gaming industry fails. One thing I know is the VAST majority of developers and publishers love us and have zero desire to see us go under.

Luckily the people who think like this are the huge minority and are basically only found in forums not in real life

I, for one, never understood the hate. I've never had a bad experience with y'all as a customer, and while i do think you could stand to pay a bit more for used games (part of the reason why i never re-sell anything), ultimately it's a perfectly satisfactory experience

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Fact is that Gamestop is a rip off when you compare their new and used prices to Amazon.

I haven't gone to GameStop in years, when I want to get my used gaming fix on I buy from amazon or disk replay.

but i don't hate gamespot per se, just the buy full price game and get Nickles back when exchanged, than put back on shelf for full price again business  mentality gets on my nerves. Oh n the fact that they keep trying to shoving  their shitty promotions down our throats when all we want is the damn game!

The video game industry has said time and time again that used games are a problem and Gamestop is big on used games. Therefore, any bad news for Gamestop is good news for gaming.

Only core gamers who frequent forums would know about these statements, hence why this misguided opinion can only be found on forums.

Do you think if developers had a problem with us they would give us exclusive pre order bonuses on every single new title to help drive our business?

Or would developers all personally come out to our Gamestop Conference to go on stage and thank us?

The truth is we drive more new sales than anyone and most of all trade in credit goes towards the purchase or pre order of new titles

I gladly choose Gamestop or other other local game stores over a big box store such as Wal-Mart or Target. Those big chain stores can still operate without selling video games, whereas stores such as Gamestop can't. A lot of us had our bad experiences with Gamestop, but, I'd still gladly choose them over anyone else at this point.

Sure that sounds fine but when they sell a game than buy back and sell that said game back at full price for a fraction of a cost doesn't help developers.

No offense to anyone that works there or likes shopping there, but I generally avoid Gamestop. I once got burned on a used game that I grabbed on impulse. I got home, looked it up, and found that it was almost $20 cheaper, BRAND NEW, on Amazon. I'm not making that up. I see no point in going there when I can't trust the prices to be fair. I'm not necessarily angry or blaming Gamestop itself, I just feel like I would have to look everything up online first, which negates the entire process. I usually stick to Amazon.

Considering you have 7 days to return a used game, what's the problem?

Shopping online is pretty much always cheaper. But sometimes people just want instant gratification.

What is full price?

Is GameStop buying used games and selling them for $60?

Also, you argue Gamestop isn't helping developers. But you don't seem to mind Amazon being a place to get used games dirt cheap. Explain how Amazon helping developers.

I used to work at gamestop when it was called Funcoland many years ago. Back then funco was very simple in the way it approached new and used game selling. It was more customer focused than meeting numbers. I think the company today is too large for an industry that is clearly contracting, expanded with too many retail stores as brick and mortar is declining and its not that focused. They are branching out in various projects like selling used cell phones and tablets and making questionable acquisitions of spawn labs and impulse. But like alot of retail stores, it was ripe for disruption and that's what we are seeing.
