Nintendo just released the data:

2012 Hardware Sales

      EUROPE      JAPAN         US        TOTAL
PS3   4,343,500   1,223,699   3,410,000   8,977,000
360   3,015,500      77,789   5,320,000   8,413,000
WII   2,042,000     475,615   1,960,000   4,478,000
WIU     425,000     627,287     890,000   1,942,000

I could be wrong, but that doesn't list canada, mexico, or south america. What about the rest of the world? Hard to say that they won when you dont use all of the numbers from every country. If nintendo doesn't release all the numbers than we just wont know.

Am I missing something? Isn't vgchartz numbers way over tracked or nintendo is not including some area's?

can anyone answer my question?

If you look at 1st post you'll notice regions being US, Europe and Japan. As far geography serves me, World is "a bit" bigger than those 3.

I figured so but I'm tired bro. So no need for that snotty reply.  I'm glad that you now about geograghics but as this site goes, sh-t is always wrong. So excuse me for questioning it. Good F'ing morning to you too!!!

Still though, for VGChartz to be accurate here, that means they think the PS3 sold (not sure if nintendo's figures are to consumer or shipped?) 2.3 million consoles worldwide outside of those 3 major regions, while the 360 only sold 1.4 million? Why such a big gap of nearly a million consoles from all the various small regions? Isn't the 360 generally the more dominant console in Latin/South America where as the PS3 is more popular in smaller European/developing countries?

Seems to me that there "may" be a discrepancy here. Last I heard, Sony does sell to more countries than MS, so I am aware of that. But when the 3 biggest regions only show a 500k gap, why would all the smaller regions show nearly twice that by themselves!

Well deserved. I know the 360 is more popular in America, but this is getting ridiculous how much the Ps3 is STILL getting owned over here.

It isn't ridiculous the 360 brand has much more market appeal for the Americas than the PS3 does. The products the platform offers are much better suited for the American audiences, and Kinect has a good penetration in the US.

Historically the PS consoles have always been bigger in the rest of the world, that is where the rest of PS3s sales come from. I think in the Middle East there are currently 1-2 million PS3s right now.

Yes I agree thats why I was questioning it. It seems off.  I also am tired and was wondering if I was just missing something.

As I recall, according to quite a few people in here, the Wii was supposed to keep having 20 million per year for 2011 and 2012. It kind of missed and ended up halving the PS3's sales (which aren't stellar either, to be honest).

this isnt world wide, this is just usa, japan and europe, there are still the two america's (without usa) asia, africa and australia

I'm pretty sure those figures only account for 3/4 of the year, though including the other quarter probably wouldn't change the result.

we know from offical shipments, MS shipped 10.1 million this entire year. Sony shiped 8 million by 4th of november, with novermber and december being the two biggest months of the year its clear that sony won the year and we just have to wait until offical shipments come out to know exactly how much
