Valkyria Chronicles was pretty much the first experience I've had with the genre. I got really into that game, I did everything besides the dlc which I have but haven't played yet. I kinda want to try out XCOM Enemy Unknown. I've heard really good things about. I also heard it can be pretty difficult but I doubt it's any worse than Valkyria Chronicles which has a number of battles that frustrated the hell out of me. For anybody who has played both games, what would you say?

Hmm it's really hard to say. I don't really like that Starcraft style of strategy. Not really a fan of building resources, and an army. VC was on another level for me, as I really enjoyed it. The best I can say though is probably the Final Fantasy tactics series.

XCOM is a shitload harder than Valkyria Chronicles. Although you can turn down the difficulty if you are a puss, or ramp it up even higher if you are a real man.

Fire Emblem and XCOM are both reasonably similar. They are squad-based, tactical turn-based RPGs, with a fair bit of focus on individual characters (Fire Emblem more for the story, XCOM more for the individual unit's capabilities).

Fire Emblem. You'll also love XCOM.

I wish Sega would do a Valkyria Chronicles collection with all three games on PS3. I heard rumors they were awhile ago but apparently not. Eventually I'll play 2 but it's so discouraging I won't be able to play 3.

My favorite has always been the original Final Fantasy Tactics.

xcom if you are up to the challenge. Enemy Unknown is probably one of the best games of last year and the best strategy game I have ever played. Perhaps the best part about xcom is how unlike Fire Emblem, you are not limited to primarily in battle strategy. Also, the ranged combat just feels better in my opinion than moving within a square of others. It allows for interesting strategies regarding cover and flanking. Fire Emblem only has elevation and ground types and even that feels to have less influence.
