Well, then they shouldn't go out their way to try and bring in those kinds of gamers.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Yes, I did read and do realize he got his stuff back, but that doesn't mean there aren't issues. That is all I am saying. I am sure over time they will all be ironed out, but right now it isn't.

Oh yeah, and someone's niece drawing a picture and her uncle posting it isn't the same as posting porn, but I am sure you knew this before you posted such a pointless comparison. Here on VGC we can also let people know we own things outside of Nintendo, just like how we can tell other people our usernames on a multitude of devices.

What happens when Miiverse comes to our smartphones? I can post on it from my iPhone but can't tell people my GameCenter ID from that iPhone i'm posting from? Seems pointless if you ask me, but hey, everyone has different tastes.

They don't care if you mention other devices. There was a story not too long ago about a Sony exec writing "I love PS" in the Miiverse.

What got d21lewis a moderation was the fact he included his IDs for those devices. Nintendo wants to avoid things like a child molester getting in contact with a victim through Miiverse interaction (For the record, I'm 95% sure that child abuse wasn't d21lewis's intention when he posted his message).

So on WiiU a predator can't get someone's NNID through friendly Mario discussion and send private messages?

I'm pretty sure you can't send private messages to people who aren't on your friends list. The most you can do is comment on random peoples Miiverse postings, which are visible to all.

Yes, you are correct, but I doubt it would be that difficult for someone to befriend someone in Miiverse.

children accounts are more reztricked on miiverse, and i dont think they can add friends from random games. I think there is another process different than adult accounts

I don't think a lot of you guys know how Miiverse works. You can friend or follow anybody. There's requests to video chat every few posts. Hell, I've gotten video chat requests so many times that I've blocked certain people. There's no penalty for going off topic. Anybody can talk about anything in any forum. People can and often do talk about competing consoles. Many even speak poorly about the Wii U or ask if they should buy the Wii U version of a game over the PS3 or 360. I've even witnessed a flame war on the Wii U to which I replied "A flame war on a Nintendo-only forum? If I didn't see it, I wouldn't believe it" There are pictures of boobs and penises that are just vague enough to not be boobs or penises. People use profane language but change it just enough to not be profane (or they use symbols). Every topic has several posts saying "Yeah! (the Nintendo equivalent of at Facebook Like) this post if you own a Wii U! Or "Yeah!" if you want me to buy this game or "Yeah!" all of my posts and I'll "Yeah!" all of yours!

I could go on and on. Nintendo Miiverse isn't the land of sunshine and happiness that a lot of people in this thread seem to think it is. It's a place where people troll, beg for attention, criticize each other, etc. I've made dozens of posts helping people set up NintendoTVii, asking people to spread the word on how awesome Miiverse is, giving out help in Arkham City, talking about how much fun my family is having in Nintendo Land, etc. I also have several posts that are just random (ie: My GF says I love you, Tim. I said, "I love youtube". She seems fine with that.) I've never asked for a single "Yeah!" but I've got like 600 or so. I'm not a saint and I'm not a monster. It's easy enough to find my Miiverse post history.

What got me banned was my random joke and my mention of my name on other devices (The actual User agreement says: "Personal Information:  Personal information includes but is not limited to your e-mail address, home address, work or school name, and phone number.  Never use Miiverse as a means of setting up real-world meet-ups."  I've since learned that my Gamertag or PSN ID is included in the "Not limited to" portion of the code of conduct.) . Most of my replies are dictated by my audience. When they talk about consoles, I talk about consoles. When they talk about TV shows, so do I. When the subject is 80's music, that's what I'm talking about. I broke the rules. I still don't deny that.

I guess that's fair.

Doesn't sound interesting in the least though since any gaming forum outside of Miiverse isn't as restrictive. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

Of course it isn't interesting without console wars talk. I don't plan to use Miiverse either, once I get a Wii U. I wouldn't even use it, if it were like VGC. There are much better things you can do with a video game system.

Like watching Netflix and going on Facebook.

That's the thing though, it doesn't have to be console war talk. It could just be people who own multiple consoles wanting to game with other gamers they met on Miiverse. Many people these days own more than just (1) console.

Well, then they shouldn't go out their way to try and bring in those kinds of gamers.

Mature gamers are welcome, others are not

Nintendo sees the Miiverse as a community for everyone, so respect particularly for the children is number one

If you don't like it, there is still the other 99.9999% of the interwebs you can darken with your presence

I expected someone would say that, every angle just to keep the argument going.. /sigh

It's about behaving well, particularly the adults and teens towards each other and the kids

It's not about acting young or silly, which of course is OK

The way it works is, anyone over the age of 13 can send and receive friend requests normally.

Anyone under the age of 13 has to "add user". (Type in the NIN ID). No friend request is sent, the other party has to know to enter your NIN ID too, and then you are friends. Similar to the Wii friend system. Very safe imo.

Anyone under 13 cannot send or receive friend requests.
