Forums - Nintendo Discussion - "How I got banned from Miiverse" by d21lewis

The Nintendo mods clearly aren't that severe, as the enemy infiltrator known as Shuhei Yoshida hasn't been banned yet.

You all did read the story on GAF about the guy who's NNID got banned because he let his neice draw a picture and post it on Miiverse right? Nothing violent, nothing that a child couldn't see. The issue was that "A child needs parental permission to use an adult account".

Now if I were on my account and allowed my family member to draw a nice picture I would be subjected to moderation. Not just that, but how do they know whether or not a child got permission? You would assume they knew since the drawing said on it "A picture drawn by my neice", meaning she was supervised and given permission.

I thought they promoted family spending time together and enjoying the WiiU.

It is obvious there is a problem here right now.

Yes, the problem is that Miiverse is being moderated by humans. Humans make mistakes. Just because that GAF thing happened doesn't mean that this is the norm or how the rules are enforced on a regular basis. If you take the GAF example, you'll also know that he had no problems getting his stuff back which points to a mistake on Nintendo's part in the moderation.

But let's talk about VGC moderation. For some reason we aren't allowed to post porn here. Why is it that VGC can't have separate sections for kids and adults? Why is it that adults like us are subjected to NintendoPie treatment by default? Why aren't we allowed to choose? Why is it that there is no weekly uproar over this problem on VGC?

Yes, I did read and do realize he got his stuff back, but that doesn't mean there aren't issues. That is all I am saying. I am sure over time they will all be ironed out, but right now it isn't.

Oh yeah, and someone's niece drawing a picture and her uncle posting it isn't the same as posting porn, but I am sure you knew this before you posted such a pointless comparison. Here on VGC we can also let people know we own things outside of Nintendo, just like how we can tell other people our usernames on a multitude of devices.

What happens when Miiverse comes to our smartphones? I can post on it from my iPhone but can't tell people my GameCenter ID from that iPhone i'm posting from? Seems pointless if you ask me, but hey, everyone has different tastes.

Well I think letting a child post in an adult's account violates the Terms of Use.  I mean that's been known since the Wii U launched.  If they find that a child is using an adult's account they will moderate it because they don't want that to happen, as most of the time the child is probably using it without consent and just imagine on a social network a child posting something like "my mom/dad just hit me" or some kind of disturbing drawing that is clearly from a troubled child in crisis.  Or something like that.

So if my daughter wants to make a picture she must first log out, then log back in under the children's account just to post that picture on the same exact Miiverse?

I am guessing family gaming only applies to when your customers are on a children's account?

Just seems redundant to me. If you disagree that's fine. I am only stating my opinion on the situation.

I think there is no outroar or frequent dialogue over us not being allowed to post porn on vgc because one historically does not expect that content to be allowed in a typical gaming forum, whereas these issues with strict moderation on miiverse are being highlighted because it is not the expected behaviour/set of rules from an online gaming service, or social network.

They don't care if you mention other devices. There was a story not too long ago about a Sony exec writing "I love PS" in the Miiverse.

What got d21lewis a moderation was the fact he included his IDs for those devices. Nintendo wants to avoid things like a child molester getting in contact with a victim through Miiverse interaction (For the record, I'm 95% sure that child abuse wasn't d21lewis's intention when he posted his message).

So on WiiU a predator can't get someone's NNID through friendly Mario discussion and send private messages?

I'm pretty sure you can't send private messages to people who aren't on your friends list. The most you can do is comment on random peoples Miiverse postings, which are visible to all.

Yes, Miiverse is a place to mainly talk about Nintendo products and arrange playing games on Nintendo platforms together. Do you think Sony and Microsoft would allow it on their own Miiverse equivalent (if they ever make one) that people invite other people to play on other platforms? Miiverse isn't the place to find people to play Halo with, so there's no point in posting your gamertag to begin with. Also, the last thing you want is to make it easy for viral marketeres to infiltrate your network and promote competing platforms.

The porn example was extreme to make a point. It's about expectations. Since it's unreasonable to expect porn on a site like VGC, nobody in their right mind would complain about the lack of it. The thing about Miiverse is that it's nothing like anything before it, it's something new. There has never been an integrated message board on any gaming platform before, so you can't judge Miiverse by the same metrics. Since the company who made Miiverse is Nintendo, nobody should have expected that they will allow people to act like jackasses (like it's possible on conventional message boards). Other details, like the sharing of gamertags and PSN IDs differ too. And why shouldn't it? Miiverse is about games available on Nintendo platforms and playing them on Nintendo platforms.

I guess that's fair.

Doesn't sound interesting in the least though since any gaming forum outside of Miiverse isn't as restrictive. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

Yes, you are correct, but I doubt it would be that difficult for someone to befriend someone in Miiverse.
