Forums - Nintendo - does anyone else just see the wii u sales as very typical for a new console?

I personally think that a lot of people are judging sales for the Wii U and Vita rather harshly, when I think that both will get better over time. I've always thought that the Vita would struggle, especially when Nintendo secured a lot of third-party exclusive support from developers who flourished previously on the PSP, but despite that, I think that the Vita is a great piece of technology that will develop a good user base, albeit smaller than the 3DS.

As for the Wii U, I still think that it is still far too early to be worrying about it. It is the first home console of the upcoming generation, and I imagine many third-party developers are waiting for Durango and Orbis to officially announce before they reveal their multiplatform titles that will likely appear on the Wii U as well. I'm betting that these next few months will introduce reveals for Wii U software that in turn will spark more interest in the console.

The only data that would make sense is of course comparative charts with the other consoles per time of the year and time from the console's release date. I think they occasionally publish those here. Nintendo HQ must also be aware of those. I remember how the 3DS was always lagging behind the DS and then eventually took off after the price drop.

Because they desperatly need something to talk about.

WiiU sales are not good, but not abyssmal. They are ''ok'' but close to bad. I'm not worried. The reason consoles sold so much this gen was because of the casuals. Not only are some casuals slowly leaving consoles, but casuals NEVER buy the most expansive system. PS360 are selling certainly not because of the ''hardcore '' gamers since they already bought their consoles a while ago and they know that the gen is coming to an end. With WiiU being the most expansive, we all know the casuals will buy ps360s, that only leaves the WiiU's market only to the hardcore. They are 3 kinds of core gamers, those who need to buy every consoles day1 or rly soon after launch, those who waits for games they want to play before buying a console, and the fanboys who only stick to their console of choice (lets ignore those). The WiiU's launch 2months ago saw good numbers, obviously those who need to have consoles day1 bought it, same for those who thought it had enough games they wanted. But I think because of the weak lineup (week in term of exclusives, those who saw enough games in the WiiU were few. And what is most important to my argument is that for the last 2months they have been NO new game launch since the system's launch (atleast none worth mentioning), not only did we see no new game launch, but we have'nt seen a single new game announcement. Now ask you this, can you give me a single reason on why should someone who did'nt buy the console at launch would want to buy a WiiU today? If someone did'nt already buy a WiiU its because it did'nt have games they wanted, if that was the case in November it is obviously still the case today. The problem with the WiiU is the total silence from Nintendo since the system launch. We can't hear anything related to the system other than the lackluster sales since their is no new game reviews, launch or announcements that the media can talk about, giving ppl the impression that it is dead atm.

Rayman Legends by the end of February will be the first new game to hit the system in over 3months, then Amazing Spiderman, Need for Speed and much more importantly Lego City and MH3U in March. I believe the sales will pick up again in end February and thru the month of March, they won't be impressive but they will be good again. Then they will drop again mid april unless Nintendo announce something that we will see something like Pikmin3 or Wonderfull101 by then (I doubt it, meaning a other long drought)

What?! I can't hear you over all this awsome! - Pyrrhon (Kid Icarus:Uprising)

Final Ultimate Legendary Earth Power Super Max Justice Future Miracle Dream Beautiful Galaxy Big Bang Little Bang Sunrise Starlight Infinite Fabulous Totally Final Wonderful Arrow...FIRE! - Wonder-Red (The Wonderful101)

Fanboys love it when there opposing consoles are failing, the WiiU will pick up in a few months and once it does we will finally see an end to the doomed threads on it,Buuut they will then move to another console lol

Yes and no. Overall sales are typical of a new console.

However sales in Europe are poor and this last week's sales were very concerning, or will be if they continue at that level.

In general WiiU has been met with utter indifference by the marketplace, and so everyone is waiting and watching to see what happens once the early adopters and fanboys have finished buying up systems.

As for the press - they are their to tell stories that attraction attention, drive hits and therefore generate advertising $$. Saying WiiU sales are 'typical' doesn't get anyone any pageviews.

Think it will be fine once some big titles drop from nintendo and sony and ms get there systems anounced. Being the only new system out kinda leaves them out there like a sitting duck. Its the most expensive system and the only thing to compare the wii u too is rumors about how the other guys are gonna blow them away. Its hard to compete against peoples imaginations. Once hard facts are out there about the other new systems(includeing price) and nintendo has rolled out a big game in HD ithink allot of people will see the wii u as a good deal and sales will really pick up.

Sales below expectation, slight glut of inventory and a post launch software lull. Only the last is typical of a launch.

If anything, the Wii U has launched more like the PSV than any other recent console, only I'd argue the PSV had a better launch line up.

The 3DS was a better launch by far, even with the same post launch software lull (which was arguably worse).

The Xbox 360 was pretty severely supply constrained its first year. I don't remember seeing any on shelves until well after the launch (NA market).

The PS3 is pretty well documented as having a sub par launch with easy availability due to the price and lack of software to justify paying that price.

Based upon expectations (Nintendo's projections, not fanboys who will claim if a console not made by their loyally supported company doesn't sell a billion units in one month it sold below expectations), it's a reasonable assessment to say the Wii U has had a sub par launch.

No Doom n' Gloom predictions here; it was just a sub par launch.

when you factor in the price and availibity, the launch is horrible, I don't see how it can rebound from this, it basically selling like a dead system at the moment WW.

The sales in my opinion are fine, but I think Wii U similarly to the Wii is build for stronger initial sales then say X360 or PS3 were. Those two were build for a longer generation, while the Wii U looks like a 5 year main platform in my eyes, so it should have taken off a bit better, yet I'm sure it will be more than fine once more of the franchise all people love come out.

I also wanna inform you guys that launches are the best time for a system to sell, the only problem with proving that is systems are always low on stock and get sold out, the only proof i have is gamecube and xbox launches, they both out sold the wii u in the same time frame in npd, xbox almost doubled the wii u sales at 1.4 million and gamecube did 1.2 million.
