I wonder if anyone has N64 numbers, lol. That might be going too far back. Off the top of my head I seem to remember something like 1.6 million sold through 1996 (remember N64 launched on Sept. 29th, 1996).

Come on man don't do this, its not good for discussion.

You're calling this:

GameCube 573,499(dec 2001)

WiiU 460K (dec 2012)

A discussion? Come on Turk, we all know what this is. Those to line is all you have in the OP. You'll probably change it after I point it out, but where's the question? There is no argument, no question, no nothing except that GC>WII U

This is no discussion.

The discussion is naturally coming forward when these 2 facts are pointed out, if you needed a question: what do you think about the directly compared sales of the 2 consoles?

The gamecube was nintendo's least successful console they did not discontinue early. The system got decent 3rd party support but got overshadowed by the PS2 and to a certain extent, xbox. Seems history is repeating itself.

The Gamecube was awsome though.

so GC sold more then PS3 in Dec. and GC sold something like 20 mil. worldwide and people calling Wii U launch a fail WoW :D

I think the whole gaming business is vastly different than it was back in 2001. 3rd party exclusivity is much more rare this time around, so a PS2 wouldn't be possible today.

If you want an honest opinion: the market have change a lot since 2001, so this "discussion" makes little sense in the long run and doesn't reflect much on the Wii U current situation.

PS3 was supply constrained.

Its worth noting that the Gamecube came off the N64, while WiiU followed a generation leader.

Gamecube also had the small matter of the PS2 to compete with.
