To be honest this does look cool, but if this is in the nextbox it will be clear that Japan won't accept it again, this feature is pretty much useless in the small, multiperson shared living room where the TV will likely be.

However, I do see this as potentially a giant selling point of the next xbox, I just might get it if it has a couple exclusive RPGs that go extremely well with the function

This just nothing to do with how big your room

Hmm. Well you see in Japan the apartments (Most Japanese live in apartments)  are comprised of a central area encompassing the kitchen and living room, not only is it cramped, but typically you would find that most of the family sit on the floor in the living room in their free time. Kinect didn't succeed there not solely on its american image, but the lack of space and time to use it. The Japanese also don't really have parties at their apartments as the walls are pretty thin and it is considered rude to have many people to come over to your house.

This projection thing in all honestly is pretty durn cool. But can be considered very disruptive in a Japanese apartment. I think if microsoft wants to succeed in Japan, they should make this kinect/projection thing completely optional.

I live in Hong Kong,i can bet my home smaller than 80% Japanese family

And this thing can even play in your small bedroom,it has nothing to do with your room size, unless your small rom have a 50inch TV

And if your family sit on the floor in the living room,do you think it just this tech's problem?you may even can't play PS3 or 360 if your family don't want you play any games at that time.

I'm sure it is ABLE to play in a smaller room, I'm just commenting on the lack of mass market appeal to the average Japanese consumer.

Yup looks great as a demo.

It won't work in my living room as I have a big window next to the tv, and paintings on the wall with glass frames. Nor do I have anywhere to put a projector in there.

I already have a projector in a dedicated room, but there I rather have it project onto a 92" screen instead of sticking a smaller tv in the middle. Plus the walls are dark in that room on purpose, to limit ambient light washing out darker details on the screen.

If you're going to spend money on a projector, wouldn't you want to use it for a big screen experience in the first place?

You're making a lot of assumptions. The system probably has it's own small inexpensive projector with some kind of 3D room scanner that's probably based on Kinect tech. I doubt MS would ask people to buy an expensive projector just to add ambient effects to their TV room.

As for your room, I don't really see a problem. This tech isn't for projecting HD video onto walls. It is for expanding the experience to fill the room with effects. You'll close the shades on your Windows and turn down the lights and let the system cover your room with ambient effects to help emerse yourself into the game. That's why most of what you saw in the video was about adding motion and color to the room rather than blowing up the video to fill the room.

OMG! Microsoft is ripping off Sony yet again. PSEye can totally do this, Sony just chose not to because it didn't work well. Did you not notice how poor the graphics were? Clearly not HD.

/sarcasm

Personaly i think it resembles this one more than the PSEye. This was developed by Sony, yes you heard it right, from 2011 >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrgWH1KUDt4

Wow, this has been one of the most positive MS threads in a while. Perhaps it's due to the lack of heavy hitters from both camps. Where are they all?

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

No one can deny this is cool.

All I have a problem with is how it might not actualy work as shown in the video. Remember the early Kinect tech demos? Also how much would something like this cost?

Yeah, I have my reservations too but I want to believe it's how they show. I've seen people around the net expressing the same cost concern but others are saying it might not be too bad because the peripheral projections aren't and don't have to be HD.

Well I don't have shades on the windows near the tv (nor on the glass picture frames), nor would it work on the dark cloth grills of the speaker towers. But sure for effects it would be pretty cool, depending on price, size and flexibility in placement of the projector.

There must be a pretty powerful lamp in that projector to cover the whole room like that while projecting onto surfaces not made for projection. I guess for motion effects you can get away with a 800x600 2700 Lumens BenQ MS502 with a special wide angle lens. That would set you back about $330 for the projector.

It's probably much cheaper tech than even that. It doens't have to be high contrast or high lumens. It just needs to get color out there so you can experience motion and effects in a more ambient fashion.

It's not trying to be the holodeck.

BTW. Doesn't the sunlight coming through your window during the day ruin your ambience while playing games. I have a nice big window next to my gaming TV and when I play during the day I pull the shades.
