result Wii was king last gen!

The problem was the Wii died before have a chance to became the new King.

and perhaps it will happen to x360, so what will the ps3 be king of if all others left competition in this gen?

360 will never have a chance to become a king, dead or not. PS3 will then be the king of kings

so the ps3 will then even be the king of ps2 which was the former king? or will it be also a king of wii and x360 which were never king? or what? so i read: useless title as totally undefined and everyone makes his own king ;)

PS2 is dead >_>
I meant to say PS3 will be the one king, the supreme king, the king of all kings = PS3

so by now we don't have a king? ps2 is dead now and ps3 isn't king by now - so wii is the current king or is the title vacant until ps3 can take the crown from the excavated wii? or is wii dead now, too? than x360 is the current king? :)

Around the Network

The king of Netflix but for gaming I go for Xbox 360 as the true King of Console.

Well let's look at this properly.

There are three main forms of royal succession: primogeniture, seniority and feudal elective.

By primogeniture it goes to the oldest child. This is, of course, the PS3.

By seniority it goes to the oldest surviving member of the dynasty. This is the PSP.

By elective it goes to the most popular, which is the Wii.

Seniority is silly and giving it to the PSP is absurd, so it really depends on whether you prefer primogeniture or elective. But bear in mind, under primogeniture, since the SNES was undoubtedly the 4th gen king, the N64 and GameCube should have followed. So we switched sometime before 1995, if we used primogeniture at all.

In essence, it ought to be the Wii, but it could be the PS3 as well. Nothing else really makes sense.

EDIT: If you enjoyed this post, be sure to pick up Crusader Kings II.

Nice, I've been thinking about that game since the sales started! PSP is almost dead though, so PS3 would likely take the throne of it soon. So that's 2 out of 3 ways PS3 would be king!

We could also say that Sony was a usurper with the PS1, since they sold a lot more than any console before them.

We live in a progressive society. We do elections :). All the casuals, moms, and grandparents clearly cast a vote for the Wii. Every vote counts!

Monarchies hold no power today.

That doesn't make it a king. This is a UK website, so we do have Kings and Queens

Monarchies hold no power today. Uk has elections for figures that actually wield power lol. Playing the UK card at all is rich.

Even so....counting chickens a tad early are we

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

well, i accept my own "king" and won't accept yours. and now? i am going to get decapitated? wow, i really dislike the new king who needs such "arguments" to convince the audience of his awesomeness.

I do not like the monarchy but that's how it works... the @Kantor reply is so good, read it.

Now this is an interesting point.

You are correct in saying that we hold elections nowadays, because most monarchies are constitutional. They are still, however, monarchies. And because there are proper elections, there is no appetite for elective succession.

It makes sense, therefore, that we use primogeniture.

Therefore, the PS3 is King, and the Wii is Prime Minister. The Xbox 360 can be Deputy Prime Minister, or Home Secretary since it does so well in its home nation. Does that work?

With PS3 the King I can live with Wii the Prime Minister and the 360 a home secretary lol lol lol... epic.

Anyway the Wii defined this generation... so a Prime Minister make sense for it.

It's overwhelming and has really awful tutorials, but once you get into it, it's fantastic. It's my third favourite game of the year, after Mass Effect 3 and Far Cry 3.

But that's a discussion for another thread.

It's currently the king (selling the most at the moment) so good choice if handhelds (3ds) aren't an option. The Wii has fallen and will continue to fall off, and the 360 won't beat the Ps3 in global weekly sales. So even in 3rd place overall, the Ps3 will outsell the competition's consoles.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

PS3 has no right to the Console Throne!

Everyone thinks PS3 is the son of King Playstation 2 of House Consoleon and Queen Computer Entertainment of House Sonyster but I know the truth! Queen Computer Entertainment has been having an affair with her own brother, Home Division of House Sonyster (a.k.a. as ProfitMarginSlayer) and PS3 is their bastard son.

So this means the throne should go to either the rough around the edges but respected Xbox 360 or the lovable and charismatic Wii both of House Consoleon.
