The thing is you have to consider who wants a wii u. All I can think of is die hard Nintendo fans. Anyone who is a casual who enjoyed the wii is probably more inclined to play on a tablet/phone then cash out on a console. Are there really many die hard Nintendo fans left? The Wii would have deterred many new potential fans by offering the least of the 3 systems, meaning that gamers will most likely already have a 360/ps3, and therefore why upgrade to something which ash the "tiniest increase in something over the last" console?

But the casuals upgrade their phones for the tiniest increasses so you are counterarguing your own point.  You already said they won't buy a Wii U because they'll want to upgrade their phone thanks to a tiny new increase.  But you say they won't upgrade to the Wii U because it's only a tiny little increase?

Let's put some context there.  The Wii to Wii U is not a tiny increase.  And mobile phones all play the same apps anyway...upgrade or not.   But the Wii U has a lot fo software the Wii does not.  That in itself makes it moe than a tiny increase.

As for PS3/X360 owners, I'm actually more fo them intersted in the Wii U than they were intersted in the Wii.  How much that amounts to sales is anyone's guess (though I'm sure yours is incredibly low).

It's not the graphic increase but the little device it comes with that is going to be the sales driver.   Go look up the game.  It's kind of intriguing.  Certainly not the level the first game was but it should sell well.

The issue is that if we consider the majority of wii fit owners are housewives, they don't give a toss about a pedometer because the wii fit still works for them, and no pedometer is worth $350+.

Think about it this way - you don't upgrade dumbbells.

No, you don't upgrade "dumb"bells.  But you do upgrade programs, applications, smartphones, operating systems, software, hardware, etc....You know, "smart" stuff.

And if the original Wii Fit just works for them, why did 21 million people buy Wii Fit Plus?

Wii U will not be fine. It's power draw is too low and puts it squarely in this generation; there has been no "PGR3" for the wii u. Therefore when the next-box is revealed, if it has a significantly higher power draw, the wii u will be left with the 7th gen, and not seen as an 8th gen console, as it won't be able to keep up with the other consoles. Joining the 7th gen party 7 years late is a very big mistake. Most gamers are not going to get a wii u when most of their friends/franchises are already on their existing console(s).

Oh, here we go again.  The generational power argument.   How badly did that hurt the DS, Wii and 3DS again?

Why don't you post here like you do at Tom's Hardware?   These debates would be much shorter.

This is where you are showing your ignorance. The smartglass and tablet ideas are indicative of what always happen in the games industry. Nintendo innovates then the other companies try to shamelessly rip the ideas off.
Have you even held the Wii u gamepad? It is an amazing idea for a controller and holds so many possibilities with its multi input capabilities. I am positive Nintendo will find many ways to innovate with this setup, not so sure about 3rd parties. You just wait till 1st party games start coming regularly, Wii u will be fine.

You need to work on how quoting works...
Ignorance? When did I say that MS or Sony were not copying Nintendo? Please do not throw terms around so incorrectly as I never claimed originallity or used it in my argument. I simply said it is not a unique feature of the Wii U, which is a fact.

No we wasn't discussing originality we were discussing innovations and i was telling you how Nintendo innovates. You were the one who brought up smartglass and i was the one who explained to you that was ripping off innovation. How hard is that to understand? You obviously are a Ps360 fan which would explain how you don't know what you are talking about. Perhaps you could explain to me the last time the most powerful console won their generation? There is just no telling some people!

Until you learn how to use the quote system I'm not going to address what you say beyond this reply.
Innovation isn't going to sell if it's not unique. I'm also a PC gamer; I have no bias when it comes to consoles.
Also dumbing a generation down to simply specs is a gross simplification of an incredibly complex market.

I know how to quote. I'm not just some fly-by night poster who just started here. Also, smart move contradicting yourself finally admitting you have no knowledge of an incredibly complex market which most certainly doesn't rely solely on horsepower alone. I feel quite sure i can count down the minutes to your next ban, hopefully this time permanent.

I stand corrected then. All hope rides on the kart of a fat italian sterotype. Things have never looked so promising...?

Just like 3DS during 2011.

It's going to top 10M in CY 2013. Wii U should have atleast one AAA title to boost the sales before the end of march; Wii Fit U.

Will that boost sales? I can't see people feeling the need to upgrade wii fit to wii u fit. It's not like you bought Wii Fit for the graphics, so why upgrade? This is the major downside nintendo never considered when they focused on the casual audience; getting them to upgrade when you are no longer the "in" gadget is incredibly difficult.

I actually can. The gamepad solves one of the biggest issues Wii Fit and Plus had.

Besides, outside of rhetorics, your argument has no value in it. Why should anyone feel the need of upgrading any console?

There have always been competition around and it has never made any sense to purchase any console, as you always have had a device available that isn't limited to just playing games. It's easy to understand that any hardcore gamer wouldn't touch a console, as you can play WoW on a PC with updated specs.

If you're phasing out the money for a tablet to play games with, I don't think it would be a problem to buy something cheaper, like Wii U.

The entertainment industry is rather simple, as all you have to do is make a product people want, and they will buy it.
The success of a videogameconsole depends only on one thing; if it has games people want to play. The biggest issue with Wii U is the public perception of Wii U being an gamepad-accessory for Wii, and the lack of games.

Graphics, gameplay etc is why people upgrade consoles and those elements aren't a consideration to casual gamers. Anyone who wants good graphics and AI wouldn't have gotten the Wii in the first place (GPU & CPU tied processes). It's not rhetoric, it's understanding the market.

If you really think a casual gamer will splash out $350 on a new version of the game they already have I would say you are very, very wrong. Unless it has a lot of new bells and whistles, which it doesn't, they are just going to see a more expensive version of what they already own.

Can you play Uncharted or Halo on PC? Nope, therefore hardcore gamers aren't tied to PC's only.

The entertainment industry is rather simple <- then why are wii u sales not sky high? That is the exact problem nintendo are having at the moment. They don't understand that there are many different sub markets in the gaming market - casuals, core, hardcore, social users etc. One major issue with the wii u is that it doesn't have a game that shows it off as being next-gen.

Mario Kart 8, Wii Fit U and the next 3D Mario, all of which will be marketed to insanity, will ensure it'll take off like crazy later this year, setting it on the path to sustained great sales. I'm pretty sure of it.

Depends. If it looks like Mario Kart Wii, then it won't. In fact it'll make more people think that the Wii U is just a pad for wii games. We have all seemed to have forgotten that the Wii U launched with one of the biggest selling franchise games of the Wii, and yet sales have yet to take off. I don't see why other less popular franchises will work if NSMBU didn't.

NSMB is an evergreen title. Those sell insane numbers over VERY long periods of time, unlike 'big' hitters like most big games on PS360. NSMBU will still be selling very well 2 years from now. As will Mario Kart 8. As everyone here knows already.
