I'll bet you any amount of money that the 3DS will sell more than your prediction of 9m for 2013, especially now that Pokemon will come out this year.

Ya....3DS is gonna do insane numbers next holiday.

I don't have a 3ds yet, and I long ago stopped playing pokemon, but this LONG OVERDUE overhaul makes the inner child in me want it. I imagine this will bring in a shit ton pokemon fans into the 3ds, both young and old.

My prediction will be

Wii U - 11.5m
3DS - 19.5m
Vita - 6m
Wii - 3m
DS - 2.2m
PSP - 1.9m
PS3 - 8m
360 - 6.5m

I could be way off, but 3DS definitely should be closer to my number than to 9m.

3DS will be in it's peak sales year in 2013, mainly due to Luigi's Mansion, Monster Hunter, Shin Megami IV, Dragon Quest, and especially now with Pokemon X/Y. So because of the extreme popularity of those titles, and more surely to be announced around E3, I think 3DS will sell 16 million this year. Easily half of those sales will come from Japan, so that takes some of the pressure off of US and especially Europe, which is very, very soft right now compared to in the past. 16 million may even be low-balling it, but 16 million is an easy number for Nintendo to meet. 17 million or more is within reach if Pokemon out-does Black and White from 2010 and 3DS reaches the heights it did during the 2011 holiday sales season.

I don't think anything over 20 million for 3DS is within reach, not unless Nintendo heavily cuts into profits and reduces the price to $129.99 and goes bundle-crazy.  Which is possible, but unlikely.  

18 million is probably the best it could do if the price remains at $169.99 and there are no hardware revisions.  9-10 million in Japan this year is easily within Nintendo's grasp, given that five extremely reliable and durable franchises are getting exclusive sequels on 3DS this year. This takes some of the pressure off of Europe and the US, which seem really soft at the moment.  Europe especially.  8-9 million combined for US/ Europe this year I predict.

I think we shouldn't underestimate the power of pokemon, ESPECIALLY since it's all being released at the same time.  DAT IMPACT.  It's a new gen pokemon, so it's sure to sell a lot of systems.  Mon Hun should sell systems for Japan, as well as DQ7.  

If the 3DS dropped to $129.99 and went bundle-crazy, I would suspect that it would pretty easily reach 25m

I predict a pro-longed explosion for 3DS throughout 2013 in Japan, less so in the US/ Europe.  Luigi's Mansion and Pokemon will do a lot to improve the 3DS situation outside of Japan, but Monster Hunter, Shin Megami Tensei, and Dragon Quest really only drive hardware penetration within Japan.

8-9 million 3DS sales in Japan, 9 million combined US/Europe

Wth 3DS' epic line up for 2013, I wouldn't be surprised if it overtakes DS' by a noticeable margin. Then we can expect the haters to come out of their caves in 2014 and reignite doom threads when YOY numbers look "like a failure". Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, Pokemon, these titles all in one year is mindblowingly big, how can anyone top that?
