Forums - Microsoft - 360 outsells Wii in U.S.? What the ...

@all:

The Wii will probably still sell around 250k for the week - which is around 1.1m - 1.2m for the month.

Nintendo will have *immediately* started stockpiling Wiis once Jan hit (just like last year) for either major releases, or for April (start of next financial year) - or hell - for next Xmas.

Even if they stockpile 500k / month, that is only an extra 5m for Oct/Nov/Dec months.

You can be sure that whenever Brawl is released, there will be a LOT of hardware available for purchase.

Now that US gets lots of funky releases this week - expect a boost in sales for next week. Brawl & WiiFit gets the attention for now.

Interesting how how fierce wii haters are.Than even throw away basic logic to support thier claims.
1. Planes are faster than boats.
2.Every system allocated systems from january to december.( look at past january system sales)
3.Nintendo is a smaller company than either competition and can't throw away money to up production.

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !

This thread is just wow - how many times have we had this Wii fad is over discussion? Here we are mid January - Nintendo announced enough times that January stock was going out in December and even though in US 360 sold more than the Wii, in others Wii sold over100% more than the 360 and Japan numbers aren't even up.

as many have said SSBB is released in Japan next week and this is a region where the Wii sales are still boosted since WiiFit was released, you know the last time we all sat and had the very same discussion as the PS3 sold more than the Wii for a week or two (I fully expect a decent stock of Wii Fit being in stores in Japan next week as 2 system sellers sitting side by side will boost demand even more).

Lets have this argument again in around 6 months time when WiiFit is rolled out in the US as well as SSBB and the launch of the WiiWare channel and Wii Mario Kart news starts to break.

Okay, this is crap coming from both you W29 and you DJMeister. I can't recall when the two of you became the Alpha and Omega of gaming sales, but clearly someone has gone out of touch with reality. First you provoke an open battle by saying really dumb stuff about the Wii not being supply constraint, leaving a beautiful setup for a flame war, and then you go on to say that others are defensive over the matter, but also quietly retreat from you original statement to something different hoping to let your flaming slide.

If you would at least find the threads in which we discussed just how many Wii were sold WW in December and late November AND where did all those Wii's come from you two might have actually learned a few things, for instance that some of January stock was probably shipped and sold during the christmas season to satisfy demand.

But no, the two of you have to go dancing around like little twats around relatively poor Wii sales for the US region, just for the fun of having a shot at both Nintendo and Wii owners. I suppose we're supposed to all have a jolly good laugh with you, but everytime people are surprised by console sale figures (in negative) there always have to be a few individual pricks that instead of making the thread more interesting, decide to flame it.

What's even more funny is what goes around, comes around. The momemnt that DMC4 and MGS4 start selling at a very poor rate, you two, along with leo-j, are going to be the ones coming out of your skins to protect them.

Oh and Leo-j is going to be banned right? It's 19,97 for the Wii and wi have estimated HW numbers for Japan at 50-60 k units.

Deep into the darkness pearing

Long i stood there

Wondering

Fearing

Doubting.

W29 actually clarified that he said "i can't wait"because he wanted to get one without trouble, and pointed out that he was mistaken to use the word "excuse" after finding out the production rate was decided 6 months ago, so stop calling him out

DJMeister however has definitely lost touch

hope this hasnt been said, but i think nintendo is the more inteligent regarding wii sales. Make it look like everybody wants a wii by limiting suply and then when AAA titles are about to be released, then be sure to have a wii for everyone. Also nintendo, IMO is supplying most of the demmand with very little diferences, this give them the advantage of being seen as the most demanded console. I dont know if you got my point, my grammar is not that good

That sounds like a major excuse to me. Stockpiling. Why not produce more? This is why the Wii won't reach JLs lofty goals of 60 mil this year and 240 lifetime. If they can't even have a game coming out without "Supply Constraints" or "Allocation shifts" or "Stockpiling", when will they have the supply to sell 220 million more consoles, when every game that comes out makes a supply constraint.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. If that is true, JLs lofty goals will not be reached.

Supply constaints when

VGChartz Hardware sales total for 3 months of Oct., Nov., Dec.

ConsoleWii
Total
7,007,782

As the shipments of 1.8M per month produced in Sept, Oct, Nov came in via boat, that's a total of 5.4M. By sending December production by plane = 7.2M.

One side note about this.  Shipments coming in by ship from China will be the slowest, esp. the farther it has to go.  Shipments by land (say by rail) would be much faster.  US sales are down the most, farthest by ship.  Japan sales will be down slightly, by ship as well, but closer.  Australia, closer by ship, sales are UP this week, (X360, PS3 down).  Europe Wii sales are up as well, but can be supported by rail shipments, with (PS3 down, X360 flat).

Allocation shifts go on all the time to try and have some to sell for Thanksgiving in US, New Years in Japan, or when system selling games are coming out, ie, WiiFit in Japan and now SSBB in Japan as well, which results in slight stockpiles.

Where's that damn red button to increase production pic? Has it been out for 5 months yet? (the time that it will take the button to actually do something!)

when will they have the supply to sell 220 million more consoles

101 months after they ramp up to 2.2M a month. 100 months to produce, plus one more month for shipping.

Oh, almost glad to see the Wii staying below 20M letting Japan's sales cause the ban of Leo.

But then I hope for next week to get a revision, thus banning Soriku as well. Not that I care which one gets banned. Just would find it amusing to see them BOTH lose the bet!!

Perhaps we could say that the Gamestop rainchecks are included in the current Wii sales and haven't been fully redeemed yet. Bet you forgot (or never heard of) of that excuse as well, DMeisterJ! Don't really know, but maybe the sales were counted in December, lowering the sales count in January.

Torturing the numbers.  Hear them scream.

^ I heard about the rainchecks, but maybe you're over predicting what will hapen with them. It's not like they're all gonna get counted on the last day of January, they have already started, in case you haven't noticed.

Why is the revelation so shocking. This isn't the first time that the 360 has outsold the Wii in North America, and most likely will not be the last. Right now the Wii hasn't had a major game launch in over two months in North America. While the 360 has a larger AAA library filled with a greater variety of games. Further more the machine seems to appeal most to North American gamers then in other regions.

You really do not need to invoke supply constraint. There are ample explanations as to why the 360 outperformed the Wii this particular week. With the heady days of the Christmas season behind us the hardcore gamer market comes on strong. Dedicated gamers right now are making up much more of the purchasing public, and they are the least inclined to buy a Wii. They are looking toward the hardcore scene.

To be brutally honest I feel relatively certain that this week there were enough Wii consoles on the shelf to outsell the 360. There certainly were last week, and the week before that. Right now I cannot see a week where there isn't at least a hundred thousand Wii consoles on the market. The console isn't completely sold out, and if the demand was there people would have snatched every last one up. I am just not seeing this January as sell out time. Not after the holiday wiped the floor with all of us.

I also will say this I have never agreed with this Nintendo stockpiling systems for the holiday logic. I said it before, and I will say it again last year I had no problem finding Wii consoles. They were not universally sold out, and if stockpiling were happening it wasn't Nintendo's doing. Take a long hard look at brick and mortar retailers. That said they did it to drive shoppers to their stores. Right now there is no reason to do that. Why not sell the machine now, and make the money now if you go two months without having the console on your shelves that is going to drive down business.

Good for Microsoft regardless. Looks like the tortoise beat the hare in this particular bend of the track.

Wii sales are no more No1 in USA, how comes, is it all about supply problems???
