Forums - General - Do we really need to kill animals??

So i guess i win then and you accept that i was right max and that animals can think and are conscious just like us?
been awhile now and nothing from you. bit hard to disagree with science i guess...

Science? Some scientist articulated their personal opinion. But in science there is stated an theory in a more concrete manner. Like n a scientific paper, like the one I quoted. About chimpanzees be like humans - killing each other with weapons. On which you didn't commented. So I guess I win. It is a bit hard to disagree with science i guess... *lol*

Consciess of animals is a scientifically disputed thing - but please notice I don't kill and eat animals, that are suspected to have consciousness: apes/monkeys, doplins/whales, elephants, maybe even octopus. So, if your arguments are based on consciousness, you should restrict it to the animals that have one. Or do you think sponges have consciousness? Or Xenoturbella? Or Platyzoa? Or corals? Funny thing is, if people talk about animals they mostly think only about chordata. Maybe including insects. Animals are  much more than that.

Another thing you should notice is, that you always compare animals with humans, but you never apply the same rules to animals as to humans. A shark may kill you, and soen't care if you are a vegan or not. The golden rule that is a thinking base to our ethics and also in core of our laws goes both ways: I accept them for other humans, but I also expect other humans to treat me according to the golden rule. I cannot expect the same from animals, they never consented to treat humans this way. So there IS a main difference.

Yes we do. After all we are mammals and on top of the food chain for that matter. Let us not pretend it is any different to that. That's how life on earth works, always has and always will.

Couldn't be bothered reading the thread past page 8. I love meat, I really don't care much about the animals being slaughtered. I think there is far more important causes to be pushing personally. I don't tell a vegan they're wrong doing what they do so I find it arrogant in the extreme when they try pushing their opinion on me.

You have to think about that:
All the animals we eat were born to be eaten. If noone eats them, they would not be born.

So basically, eating meat doesnt take lives. It gives life.

Might  as well start breeding me some nice Scandanavian ass in my basement eh genius.

I"m really getting fed up with stupidity like this.

You're supposedly German, you're letting your forefathers down with your lack of brains.

It's funny. Your going on about meat eating being wron g. Yet you arent aware how your actions here are just as wrong if not more so. At least the people who are for eating meat can have a civil discussion.

Yes. Someone with a Master's degree in physics who's been a vegetarian for 8 years and was a monk for almost 3 is doing more harm by making arguments towards a peaceful diet than the slaughtering of animals who have no means to defend themselves.

You're more than welcome to shoot for the 'ego' card now. It will redeem yourself in the eyes of the peons. But I hold no qualms my dear brother - once the realization dawns upon you that every action, creed and thought is an investment worthy of a palpable return, then - only then - in the deepest recesses of your mind you may find a glimmer of loathing towards modern man's actions.

I heed not the call of illiterate fools.

There are pre-emptive strikes in my writing - they are not of the vengeful type, despite a mistaken perception.

Are you people really that poorly informed!?

I CAN LIVE ALL YEAR ROUND on 10 square meters of land!

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY RESOURCES A SINGLE KG OF STEAK REQUIRES!!?

(I'm screaming because you wouldn't hear me otherwise)

I made myself some time back some calculations, because I was interested. With modern grains and modern cultivation you need more or less 1 hectar (=100x100 meter = 10,000qm) to get enough energy to feed one person over a year. Meat usually need even more space.

My guess would be that this wasn't the first time in your life that your calculations came up wrong.

As I said in the last three threads. I ain't eating grass and tree bark. So yes we do. Animals brought it on themselves when the snake let Satan take over him and help make man sin in the garden. Of even. We only ate apples before. Immediately after that Adam ate a Unicorn. Greedy eve ate a t-rex.

Dear Spurge,

Whilst your enthusiasm has somewhat energized myself and many others in the past, I regret to inform you that I cannot carry any intellectual respect for you henceforth.

Perhaps a sober mind and proper reflection on your statement will elucidate my stance.

Going by the sample space available here, I weep for America.

A cow's fart destroys the ozone. We as humans eat cows so we all don't die. Eating veggies means eating plants which means less oxygen which is necessary for survival.
I eat meat and I save the world :)

You probably think your joking attitude on this topic is somehow endearing - funny; It is the stock-standard response I've come to expect after being a vegetarian for 8 years. My father - a 3rd dan black belt and lawyer - made the same quip at first.

Funny, how predictable human beings are.

Sorry I didn't really mean to insult you but I really found the topic to be rather funny. On a serious note though us humans eating other animals is just a natural balance we have created. Like I said earlier a large cow population could spell doom for the ozone. Every human on Earth eating veggies would also spell doom for our atmosphere. I also really don't associate the natural food chain with animal cruelty.

I suggest you do some more research before making statements that are mere heresay.

Some people just have too much time on their hands, if he grew up hungry as shit then he'll eat whatever he can get his hands on including all the meats! :) I'm also pro-cannibalism if we have nothing left to eat for survival for as long as it's fully cooked. The problem is also if all we eat only plants and don't touch animals, we'd run into another problem which would result in overall lower vegetation on the planet which would fuck our human eco system which would end result in pro-hunting and meat eating lol. I think we have a pretty good balance so far.

You'll also excuse me if I don't care about cows being raped by metal insertions if it gives people jobs and give grown ups something to drink since we don't exactly want to suck on our women's tits after they got a baby in them, goat milk is better than cow milk BTW, we should just go that route in the masses IMO.

I'm so happy for you that you live at a place where weather conditions or poor harvest doesn't effect you, just because you stopped eating meat, it won't change that humans will still need to develope and expand, and I'm pretty sure nobody herds for charity, animals will still die as we expand into their territories in great numbers, 8 billion and still increasing, moving right along. :)

Oh how I wish I could debate a person like you in a public forum. Oh for the days of yonder.

I suppose I will take my mind elsewhere. Least persons like you shit all over it with your philosophy of selfness. It is a very sad predicament indeed when a person isn't able to distance his own actions from the philosophy behind them.

No one believes they are conditioned. That sentance rings with a resonant truth.

You're such a mystic that you can tell a person's true intention from all the way around the globe eh? Well good for you. For all I know Spurge could be brewing meth in his basement.

In fact, I will nominate you as the idiot, because I in fact hold that he was at the very least somewhat serious in that post.

Don't make me your enemy.
