The facial animation only second to L.A. NOIRE? It wasn't even ahead of Heavenly Sword. Games like Uncharted and Heavy Rain easily run laps around it as well. That was not one of its strongest points.

That said, it had better exploration than Uncharted, likeable characters, and a lengthy campaign, making it one of the more enjoyable experiences this gen.

The facial modeling of Uncharted where allright but nothing like Enslaved. I have never played Heavy Rain so I don´t know anything about that. The facial modeling of Enslaved was splendid that is one of the things that makes this game standout.

It's one of my favorites. I wish it had done better so we could get more games set in its world.

CGI loves Heavy Rain.  I do too.  It's a great game.  While I appreciate what Heavy Rain did, there were many times where the facial animations crossed into uncanny valley territory and characters just looked unnatural and kinda freaky looking.

Instead of saying which games look better than Enslaved (which I admit I have a bit of a bias towards since I decided before it even came out that I would love it), I will go the other route and say that Enslaved isn't the best in the business but it definitely sits among the best.  It was made by the same guys that made Heavenly Sword and I think their work was just as good in this game as it was in that--especially since Heavenly Sword used pre-rendered CGI for its praised animation and Enslaved used the game engine.

Enslaved is a fantastic game. Love trip, monkey and pigsy. I honestly believe enslaved is better than uncharted

Bet with ninjablade:

Ninjablade wins if the next 5 multiplat on the wii u are inferior to the 360 version.

I win if one of the 5 mulitplats are on par or superior on the Wii U.

I don't know if I'd go that far!  I like the game more than Uncharted but I think Uncharted is easily a better package for most.  Enslaved really made me feel for the characters, though.  Also, when I finished the game, my daughter was watching me play.  She saw the ending and cried like a baby.  When I asked her what was wrong, she replied "I don't know."  It's a rare thing for a game to make you feel.

I don't get like how, at the time, people used Enslaved's platforming to criticize the game when I tried to compare it to Uncharted.  They said that it required no skill, unlike Uncharted 2.  I accepted that because there really is no way to fail at platforming if you know where to go.  Then, Uncharted 3 did the EXACT SAME THING and nobody said a word.  I mentioned this and people said "Well, in Enslaved, the things you can grab onto will shine, etc.".  It's the same, goddamit!  Why is it a bad thing for one title and a good thing for another?

Love Enslaved, I've platinumed it twice and got all the achievements on 360. DLC is good too. I actually just bought Enslaved again, and The Saboteur, for another playthrough.

Enslaved, Saboteur, Fallout3, and Vanquish are games that I've played through countless times, and I imagine I'll still be playing them years from now.

You may know everything, but you may want to go back and play Enslaved again, because the facial and eyeball animation is just as good as anything thats out there, actually may be the best eyeballs to date. And La noire looked good but it also looked bizarre.

Heavenly Sword also used the engine, just thought I'd point that out. In fact, it's quite obvious when you're playing the game that's running on the engine and not CGI. The polys are blatant, as is aliasing.

And frankly, it's not about liking Heavy Rain (nor Heavenly Sword ) more than this (ironic, given I prefer Enslaved to HS). It just is what it is, and what it is - Enslaved facial animation was good enough for what it was going for, but not ahead of the top titles in the field.

A quick Google/Bing search of "Enslaved facial animation" yielded results like:  "While the voice acting in Enslaved is excellent, this has just as much to do with some of the best facial animation in a game this generation. Characters emote convincingly, and allow Enslaved to explore their discovery, loss, and revelation effectively as a result - when you see someone cry, it's not presented by a shiny drop running down their face, it's shown in the way their whole face falls and turns."  http://www.ign.com/articles/2010/10/01/enslaved-odyssey-to-the-west-review?page=2

So I'll leave it at that.  And, as a Heavenly Sword owner.....the animation was ahead of its time but it's not the benchmark it once was outside of the CGI.  I'll let the video speak for itself.  Lots of games don't look as good as we remember.  And, since I haven't played Enslaved in about 11 months (played through it again in 3D right after I bought a new TV), Enslaved may be dated, too.  I remember it holding up quite nicely, though.

What the fuck happened to my embedding on the last post!?

I'm happy for you that you could find that, though it doesn't disprove anything I've said. And again, Heavenly Sword used no CGI. It was pre-rendered using the engine.

Dude, you say this every time.  Even when a game like Uncharted uses pre-recorded footage to pull of something that couldn't be done in game.  They use a cut scenes with bumped up capabilities although it's pretty comparable to the in game engine.  Anyway, we're on the internet.  I'll let it do the fighting for me:  "The way the plot's told is nothing short of breathtaking. Using a mix of in-game cutscenes and CGI movies, Heavenly Sword is full of emotion and character. All the game’s motion capture scenes were directed by Hollywood favourite Andy Serkis.  http://www.projectcoe.com/sony/games/heavenly_sword.html

Every site says that Heavenly Sword used CGI at the time and, playing the game, it's obvious when the CGI comes into effect and when the game engine takes over.  If it's pre-rendered, then it's just a video playing on the console and that video is likely using effects that the game can't pull off any other way.  Metal Gear?  99% in game.  Alan Wake?  Often CGI.  Nothing to argue.

Also, the quote from earlier that you said you were happy I could find does disprove something you said.  You said that Enslaved's facial animations were not one of its strong points.  The reviews of the day say that it was.  Anyway, I'm sleepy.  It's 2am and I've been up since 4am (with a two hour nap somewher around 7pm).  Later, bro.
