Forums - Sales Discussion - Vita has outlasted the 3ds

Nintendo was so surprised at how bloody awful 3ds sales were that they cut the price by $80 less then a year after launch. The fact that the psvita hasn't been able to even match those awful sales is not a good sign. Sony can't afford to permanently slash the price any time soon. Sales are very very disappointing considering this isn't sony's first handheld.

The problem is once PS4/720 release, the Vita is going to start to look much less impressive techwise. Will PS4/Vita ports even be possible like with how Sony is doing with PS3/Vita? Studios are going to be split so thin with all the new hardware, I can see Vita being left behind, much like PSP was once PS3 was released.

I am not the biggest Vita enthusiast but Sony has created a studio that wil focus on Vita titles only and Media Molecule is already working on a very interesting exclusive title. I know two studios are not much. But if Teraway manages to create a similar Hype LBP did and the new studio becomes great plus a price drop with memory bundling I say the Vita might just survive. And wont need to rely on many PS3 ports and Multi Plat ports.

I'm a little confused here, to be honest, by the thread title and the OP. What are we talking about, exactly?

Outlasted in terms of when a official price cut was implemented comparing from one system to another.

So February 2011 to July 2011 for 3DS versus December 2011 to December 2012 for Vita?

I guess so but it'll be surprising that they manage to keep it the same price....until February (the actual release date WW I think). Hoping for a price cut!

Edit: Ironically the Vita came out on birthday...so hearing a price cut on that day..........MEGATON! XD

Haha, well let's hope a price cut comes soon for you and others who haven't picked one up yet.

Oh, and a memory card price cut too :)

vita will improve their market share if they would "effectively" implement vita on ps4... which i think they would...
so if sony would release ps4 next year with vita's integration vita have a big chance for resuscitation.

Personally I don't see the PSV ever doing well. Shame really. I'll watch it after it gets a price drop. I may just pick one up this time next year if it has had a price drop and is doing well.

Black Friday is a prime example that the demand for ps vita is there. I think most people is waiting for that sweet price spot

CPU: Ryzen 9950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5 Pro

Weren't 3DS sales pre-pricecut higher than Vita LTD sales are now? I wouldn't really call anything about the Vita a victory just yet, although I feel a price-cut would give the system a much needed boost. It's really not a bad system, games look amazing on it. (However, I only have PS1 Classics so far, so that's the only stuff I'm able to judge atm. xD)

Now this is damage control...

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Cherry-picking of useless statistics. Early large price cuts mean nothing for healthy sales. Case in point: PS2 was 2/3 of its $300 launch price exactly one year and seven months after its launch. Think that's bad? By one and a half years after its launch, the PS1 had dropped 50% in price. And neither of these systems had particularly bad sales at all at any point really, meaning that early price cuts do not mean that the system's situation is grim and, by extension, the absence of this in Vita's case is nothing to be thrilled about.
