Forums - Sales - It's now official the Nintendo DS has become the best selling video game system of all time!

And to add, because you missed it when ethomaz posted...

As of March 2012 the PS2 was at 155.1 Million.
Add on the 1.1 Million to July, it takes you to 156.2 Million.

Its safe to say that right now, the PS2 will have shipped over 157 Million units. 800k in 6 Months is easily do-able for a console that shipped 1.7 Million in the 2 Quarters previous.

Like it or not, the DS still has some way to go yet.

This thread is almost as amazing as when people misinterpreted MS PR when they said they sold 66m or something. Also why do only Sony fans defend these numbers? How come so called equal posters do not ever defend stuff about Sony? I defend everything that is fact.

I ignored what Ethomaz posted on purpose because he's just too biased. Maybe I should do the same with you.

I said I don't want to debate about shipping figures and I won't, I'm just talking about sales here and VGC is now showing DS higher than PS2, they even posted an article confirming this fact. Now if you disagree...oh and nevermind, you're right PS2 is still #1, will still be #1 and is still selling plenty of million and will continue doing so for the next 10 years and...whatever make you sleep better at night.

Youre being impossible. The VGChartz numbers for PS2 are shipment numbers.

http://www.vgchartz.com/article/82746/editorial-why-it-is-so-easy-to-blame-vgchartz/ - From Brett himself. Read it.

"Ever since the formation of VGChartz, we have faced the same difficult scenario. Every piece of data we report is an estimate. It will always be higher or lower than the actual figure and there will always be some for which the figure is favourable and some for which the figure is not."

"However, even with the greatest of diligence, our data is still just an estimate so whenever quoting a figure from VGChartz it should be listed as an estimate".

VGChartz numbers aren't fact.

There arent 3 Million PS2s on ships or in stores. The DS hasnt yet passed the PS2, the DS just passed the PS2s shipment numbers from November 2011.

I just found something hilarious.

According to VGChartz the Nintendo DS is only a couple of days away to overtakes the PS2 lifetime sales:

PS2 = 138,255,449

DS = 137,418,885

And the best thing is it only took 6 years to accomplish that feat. It seems the new king of hardware set the bar very high for a new record. Can the 3DS or any other upcoming consoles be able to do better?  We'll see but now it's time to celebrate!

History is repeating itself, atma.

Well, I'm from Brazil, and like the colombian guy said I don't see PS2 on stores anymore, but the DS is everywhere and in my city is the console i see the most in the street.

Jeez you have a lot of time to waste. See that you were also the first one to argue about it back then, I guess I have hit a nerve lol.

We have a colombian guy and now a brazilian that are both saying PS2 is not selling anymore while DS is still healthy in these emerging markets. PS2 is quite dead now while DS has a couple of million units to sell before dying. Stop the denial, even if PS2 is a couple hundred thousand ahead now, it won't stay there for too long.

Oh and do you have the shipping figures of Nintendo DS so we can do a fair comparison?

Finally, do I need to repeat that it took only 8 years to reach what PS2 did in 12 years (or 6 years vs. 10 years like in the other thread) or you will still continue to ignore it?

You mean you don't see people walking around playing their ps2 in the streets!?

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

If you think about how many PS2 were bundled with phone contracts and how much PHATS died the DISK READ ERROR death you can actually say the DS is the winner. It simply is.
(I dont know any1 who owns a phat anymore lol and I also "bought" 2 PS2s because my phat died)

If you just go by numbers of units sold (no matter the way) then we dont have a clear winner since we lack the numbers. And shipment doesnt even give us a hint since 2 different companies handle their productions totally different.
(most car manufacturers for example have like 0 difference between sold and shipped because they want to avoid storage costs so they sell, then produce and then ship sure this doesnt apply to consoles it was just an example. As long as we have no idea how willing Sony and Nintendo and retailers are at storing the products we have no idea how shipped translates into sold)

What you say about car companies isn't true at all. Most car companies have at least a months worth of stock ready to go at all times. For instance, VW has stopped making the current generation Jetta Sportwagen (Golf Estate) but still has enough left to last until the next one comes out.

I have no doubt the DS will outsell the PS2. That only makes sense. I'm not sure it has yet. But I am sure it doesn't matter and that I don't care. I love my PS2 and my DS.
