Forums - Nintendo - What if the WiiU does fail? No one seems interested~

You've been doing a lot of these threads lately Spurge. I'm not particularly impressed.

And success is a relative thing. The WiiU and 3DS will never sell as well as the Wii and DS, that is almost a given. But it doesn't mean it will sell badly. Do we count the PS3 as a 'failure' for being quite a way off hitting half the numbers of the PS2? I don't think so. If Sony are happy and content with those numbers, then good.

This is something that has been bothering me.  Many, many, many times on these forums I've read that the PS3 was a failure because it lost market share from the PS2.  I've seen that expressed and hammered on dozens of times.  Now, suddenly, there seems to be a lot less of that opinion.  It really kind of bugs me.

Personally, I thought it was silly with the PS3 and now I think it's silly with the Wii U.  Generations and landscapes change.  The conditions are different, what the competition is doing is different.  One generation does not determine what happens in the next.

As far as the Wii U goes, it's not going to fail.  It's launching first and it still has Nintendo games.  At the very least, it's going to do modest numbers.  It has enough backing by Nintendo fans alone to be a mild success.  I just don't see much potential for failure.

Exactly. It all boils down to the fact that, if you have unrealistic expectations, you'll end up disappointed. I mean, it's barely tracking behind the Wii in America currently so it's not even selling that bad.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

It is actually vita third parties will be paying more attention to. 3ds is selling more software and they won't ignore that. Capcom's terrible sales have already caused vita to miss a late release of revelations. Then you have to consider that the games sony promoted as the system sellers have sold terribly for sony systems. If vita hasn't picked up by march sony will be left to juggle it on their own.

Bioware said they were happy with mass effect 3 and have more plans for wii u. So either it has sold badly or they had no expectations of it in the first place. It will be late 2013 where third parties start to note trends with wii u and they still won't have a clear indication of how software performs on the others. Right now people should focus on vita. That is what companies are looking at.

Certainly huge franchises like assassin's creed and call of duty flopping doesn't look good for wii u but it looks much worse for vita. Vita has had far more then enough time to pick itself up. If they can't sell on vita then what can?

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

i did a thread a while back saying there was no big anticipation for the wii u. In fact, interest in Nintendo seemed to be at an all time low. Now the Wii U is pushing un-impressive numbers out, the 3DS does not matter in the West ( where was the holiday line up of games for it?) and the iiU has barely been mentioned in places where it matters. Nintendo seems to finally get something right, but then they start getting other things wrong.

I think things are different now. Core gamers completely left during the last few years of wii. at least with the N64 and Gamecube they were still hanging around. But Nintendo did one of the 5 cardinal sins with the wii. they allowed the casual market to swamp it with tiles, they released no games(ala 3DS now) and they did not care about third parties. thatwas acyually like three cardinal sins.

Now everyone is surprised that third parties are sticking their noses up at nintendo on both there current systems and that core gamers are ignoring them?

Now what happens to nintendo if it fails?

The WiiU biggest "enemy" is the latest impression the gamers and the developers had of the Wii; similar to the PSVITA which has as "enemy" the latest impression developers had about the PSP.

If the WiiU fails, they will just continue to get money from the 3DS and will do R&D for their next console, just like it happened when the N64 and gamacube "failed".

Well according to Rol rule #4 it's a MAJOR flop

What´s rule #4?

Rol's rule #4: Anything that sells less than the highest prediction is a MAJOR flop.

lol I see..what was the highest prediction for the Wii U?

Nintendo has enough money to survive three Dreamcast-scenarios. Also the first week sales of Wii U in America are impressive. I don't understand why the 'Nintendo is doomed' articles are still coming up. Everyone wants to believe Nintendo is doomed or something, although the opposite is true.

As far as i can see the Wii is taking up the slack of the Wii U's slowish start, just as the DS has done the same for 3DS.

Give it time anyway.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Well I saw at least a couple 1.5m WW FW predictions. Spurge had one of them, and when I questioned him about it he expected huge sales in Europe and Japan.

Well, if the measure is according to rule #4, then it´s a major flop indeed lol...where´s Rol´s 'we need to talk about it' thread? :0

we need to stop making threads like these all the damn time for all systems after they come out right away, each system takes time to gain traction and the wiiu is not different. everyone just needs some patience
