The graphics there is not good enough for anybody to tell what race the enemies is, so, no controversy.

For heavens sake. The game has to have an exciting setting. Africa and voodoo is perfect for that mystery atmosphere.

When I first saw that trailer for RE5, I would have said no way. Pure coincidence. But now that I've had some insight into the people behind a lot of video games, and now that I realise what a large market video games is becoming, I'm starting to see how messages are put into games in much the same way as they are in Hollwood movies.

I do believe that this is all about a man-made virus that targets a specific race, which literally becomes a zombie rave. That race must then be killed.

It's very easy to see how this can relate to AIDs, and I don't like it at all. There's no reason why all the zombies should be black, apart from is there was a race-specific virus, which we know is basically impossible without being engineered deliberately by man.

Wrong. There is a very good and natural reason for the zombies to be black. The setting is in black africa, you know, south of Sahara? People there are black.

How is it racist? Isn't it like taking place in Africa or something? It wouldn't even make sense if the zombies weren't black.

That would be the same as something taking place in Tokyo having there be large amounts of black guys and white guys equal to the number of asians.

Every so often I see something that makes it clear that Japan is blissfully unaware of the fact that race is something of a touchy issue in other countries. This is one of those things.

It's just so hilarious how it's almost as if it were deliberately crafted to start long ridiculous threads. It works on so many levels. It's got a white guy shooting black people, which is enough to set off the people who are always looking for things to be offended by. Then the borderline literate types bring up imperialism, The White Man's Burden, and "We had to destroy the village in order to save it." And last of all there's the fanboys. God bless 'em all. They've never met a game related controversy they couldn't refuse to acknowledge.

It's such an immaculately crafted farce that I truly wish I could believe this was intentional. I would love to believe that a corporation could release something that they knew would trigger all of these responses.
