Its a new IP late into the generation. It will review extremely well and Sony will back it like crazy.

i can see it happening... if gears of war did it, why not this one? a 1M+ first week + legs = 5M just like GOW3.

If they want to make it a trilogy Sony will ensure it sells very well as a new IP will be gold for launching the Ps4.  

While I agree it will probably take the crown for console king it is a long way behind PC games.  In the grenade GIF earlier you will notice there is no damage to the windows and the room furniture is unmoved.  The engine is still using pre baked animation and effects streamed into the action through clever level design and gameplay design.  Every game cheats by the way, obviously, but there are PC games out there with full physics modelling and graphics at this level (animations on LOU are on a different level to anything else imo).

I would not compare those two games. Gears of War is 3rd person MP shooter. And this is a survival game. Gears of War is perfectly suited for the American market and got great reviews. It is not said that The Last of Us will, I hope but you never know. And The Last of Us is launching at the end of the livecycle the first Gears of War was an early game.

No. Unless it looks that good but isn't set in one small area after another with a fixed amount of enemies on screen at once like Uncharted/Gears of War. Give me a game that pushes a lot more, allowing a lot more freedom and maybe even 60 frames per second over this please. It does look great though.
