Ravenholm.

Need I say more?

Actually, I do:

Low Life.

I agree with those saying the "We Don't Go to Ravenholm" level in Half Life 2. It might not be super scary in the traditional sense, but it's pretty creepy either way.

There are parts of Resistance that are pretty scary too. I don't know the name of the level, but there's a part where you're indoors in like an underground base where they did experiments or something (there's lots of medical areas) that had my heart beating pretty hard. lol

I remember that level.  I was pretty scared because they had so many tunnels leading off in different directions, and I didn't know when a door was gonna bust open with some Chimera running out. They also had those crazy fast Chimera that could climb walls in that level.

Yeah, when I finished Ravenholm I was like "WHEW! FINALLY!!!"

Video Games aren't scary.

OMG are you kidding!

Any scary video game I've ever played was at least 3x scarier that the scariest movie I ever saw.

I remember Doom 3 freaked me out the first time I played it. Lights off, surround headphones on, very freaky at the beginning of the game.

Man, I hated Doom 3. I'm all about a good atmosphere in a game and the dark rooms do kind of freak me out, but when they base their entire game on flashing lights and pitch black rooms with guys at every corner, it became a frustrating experience. I haven't gotten very far in it for that reason and there is no way I'd ever play it without at least a flashlight mod.

Well there are plenty of flashlight mods out where it looks like you duct tape a light onto all the guns so if you really want one you can grab those.   But I kinda liked the dark.  I remember one time specifically I walked into a dark hallway and as I switch to flashlight something walks around the corner which freaked me out for a sec.

I would have to say for me, RE on Dreamcast in my dorm at night back in college was pretty scary. Half Life also kept me on my seat.

I think that next one for me just might be Target Terror on the Wii, that game just scares me looking at the screenshots.

Silent Hill (in particular 2). Psychological scariness is way scarier than the "jump out and scare me" tactics which the RE series usually relies on. The radio in Silent Hill is one of the best devices used to create the sense of F.U.D.

That said, my biggest "boo" moment would probably be in FEAR. (Spoliers ahead)

I can't remember which part it is exactly, but you approach the top of a ladder and as it turns you around to climb down it, you see Alma approaching the ladder. 2 seconds later as you get to the bottom and climb off, you see your dead friend approaching you at the bottom. Even my friend watching the game at the time jumped at that part.

Superman64.

::shudder::

Silent Hill is by far the scariest game, especially when played alone in the dark. The static from the radio and the dark corridors illuminated only by a small flashlight made this one of the scariest gaming experiences ever. It was one of my first PS games and one of my favorites.
