Forums - Sales - Wii U sold 40K units during UK launch (CONFIRMED)

Well Nintendo said they would ship the most by far to NA, and yet some people were expecting a 1.5m launch week after it selling 400k in USA...

Do you think it will break a million?  If (and that is a big if) the Japanese launch is successful it MAY push that number

Wow that's terrible, looks like nintendo are in for some tough times.

Obviously all shipped consoles are sold. There were already rumors weeks before launch that UK and germany only gets around 50.000 consoles each. The only terrible thing about it, that Nintendo can't produce enough consoles.

ahh yeah that's what i read, you probably read the same news as i did. are you on gamefront sometimes?

Wii U launch turning out to be disastrous for Nintendo, as many expected (except the nintendo camp of course).

Try "hoped for".

Why would any one "hoped for"? What age are they? Nintendo has only themselves to blame for this. It is too expensive and no where near as good value to the consumer as the PS3/360 currently is. Their marketing is all over the place with the Wii U, most people think it is an addon controller to the Wii. The Wii U not selling will be bad for the industry and gamers

Unfortunately, as Rol alluded to, many people hoped for (and are now prematurely celebrating) the failure of Wii U.

Also, of course the PS3 and 360 are better values for the consumer. They each have a library of hundreds of games, and thousands of people online ready to play them.

The marketing I've seen sends a rather concise and lucid message, but I'm afraid I haven't seen everything. No access to American television :( Moreover, It's impossible to state that most people consider the Wii U an add-on without some kind of survey. Anecdotal evidence holds very little weight.

In the end, it's only day 16 so the doom and gloom is far too soon.

It's not sold out tho scroll up a few posts and read sh1nn's comment.

Should we talk about that "sold out" not mean that there is literally no console available? Even when the Wii has been "sold out" among the world you had a good chance of getting one if you called stores. But only few people want a console so bad they drive 50 miles to get one. They will wait until it is in stock again at their local stores.

There were already rumors weeks before launch that UK and germany only gets around 50.000 consoles each.

That doesn't say much about the stock levels during the weekend though.

The mind truely boggles. Can people really be that childish?

Whoops, let's wait until it's second first christmas!

Why were they only able to ship 50k when they could ship many many more for Wii?

I think it's the controller.  And Nintendo did say they would have problems with UK stock - someone posted a link somewhere in this thread.

They only shipped 50k to begin with? Why? Was there supply issues, or was the demand that low?

Compared to the other launches, 40k don't look all that bad.
