I don't really believe those figures are that low at all. It's sold out everywhere round here, and my friends around the country have confirmed this. No way is it that low.

well the article did say it sold out.  if 40k is the real number the question to ask is why did nintendo ship so few?

Im guessing we are getting the same conflicting information about the UK launch as with the US launch.  Officials are saying its sold out, but people on the ground are saying its not.

So this turned out to be true then?

They must have ran into some unexpected issues. They expect to sell 5.5m consoles by March 2013 and it'll be tough to reach that target if they fail to even produce that many...

Wii U launch turning out to be disastrous for Nintendo, as many expected (except the nintendo camp of course).

Try "hoped for".

Why would any one "hoped for"? What age are they? Nintendo has only themselves to blame for this. It is too expensive and no where near as good value to the consumer as the PS3/360 currently is. Their marketing is all over the place with the Wii U, most people think it is an addon controller to the Wii. The Wii U not selling will be bad for the industry and gamers

I expected Wii U to fail miserably in EU. Is this confirming my beliefs?

100% of shipped consoles sold is not bad :)

There were already rumors weeks before launch that UK and germany only gets around 50.000 consoles each.

Nintendo can't produce enough Wii U consoles.

So the Wii U sold 40k units in UK in the first 48 hours and people think its a flop? UK is England alone not Europe and lets wait till the end of the week to get the full week's numbers so we can all come to a fair conclusion of how its doing.

The Uk consists of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Wow that's terrible, looks like nintendo are in for some tough times.

Obviously all shipped consoles are sold. There were already rumors weeks before launch that UK and germany only gets around 50.000 consoles each. The only terrible thing about it, that Nintendo can't produce enough consoles.
