This is why you can't go wrong with AMD with multiple cards since the 6xxx series :) They just scale so well http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5086448?key=2z58gFx2wviIb0ydJtp7Kg&loginkey=gJh2sWhl3z1cvJ8tHXj5nA

Yep they do. I think the key with benchmarks should be less about "POWAAAAAAA" and more about $ efficiency. Anyone can throw money at a PC and create results, the question should be who can make the most out of their hardware within reasonable constraints.

I agree. the ratio of performance/cost is the true benchmark http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6127573 my 3DMark Score is P4186, but my build is 2 yrs old and cost $680.  BTW, If I bought another card would I be able to reach 30 fps consistantly?

MOBO - $50
GPU - $200
SSD - $130
RAM - $60
PSU - $90
CPU - $150
-------------
+ $680

Probably something like a Gtx 660ti or a HD 7870, also depends on the games you play and what resolution you play at

should I crossfire?

If you find another 5870 for a decent price I would go for it, personally for me I would rather get a good single card rather than two slower cards

3D Mark 11 doesn't run on Windows XP, sorry.

Ive heard that my cpu would bottleneck a crossfire with 2 5870s
------------------------------
MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 AMD Phenom II 970 Deneb 3.5GHz Quad-Core NZXT Phantom Corsair Vengeance 8GB
GIGABYTE Radeon HD 5870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5/ Mushkin Enhanced Callisto 60GB SSD/ SB 1TB 7200 RPM
Rosewill 802.11b/g/n Wireless-N 2.0/ Corsair Tx 650w/ Sony DVD

I'm currently researching the subject http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/graphics/display/radeon-hd5870-cpu-scaling_2.html. I imagine my psu would need an upgrade while I'm at it

My new scores with my i7-3970X Extreme

your rig costs $4000!
mobo $350
ram $250
ssd $400
cpu $1000
gpu $2000
that gives you a performance/cost ratio of 14488/4000 = 3.622

my rig cost $600
MOBO - $50
GPU - $200
SSD - $130
RAM - $60
CPU - $150
my performance/cost ratio is 4186 / 600 = 6.977

since mine can play every game on high i think im content. instead of buying parts im going to learn overclocking and see what improvements i cant find.
