Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan sales week 47- Famitsu and Media Create

The drop off for 3DS was very small...impressive.
Vita near 300% increase, nice. Hopefully those new colors have a long-term affect on sales.

Looks like Assassin's Creed PSV benefited from the new PSV colors. Don't think it would have sold that well if it released last week.

I think this week PSV might be near 100k WW.

The portable situation:

PSP(2011 YTD)= 1,726,928
PSP+PSV(2012)=1,309,189(-24.2%)

Looking ahead to Week 47, PSP did 33,151 in 2011.

3DS+DS(2011 YTD)=3,171,199
3DS+DS(2012 YTD)=4,041,901(+27.5%)

Looking ahead to week 47, 3DS+DS did 124,185 in 2011.

All handhelds(2011 YTD)=4,898,127
All handhelds(2012 YTD)=5,351,090 (+9.2%)

Some extra info looking ahead, total sales for 2011.
PSP=2,079,152
PSP+PSV=2,519,138(Not matching last year)

3DS=4,282,142
3DS+DS=4,939,929(Need to average 149.7K a week to match last year.)

All handhelds=7,459,067(Handhelds need to average 351.3K a week to match last year.)

Very good hold for the 3DS. It looks like the Mario bundle helped out. Seems Animal Crossings sell through rate is still high. Hopefully Nintendo will keep putting out units. I can see Animal Crossing being in the charts for quite some time. Good to see a resurgence in the holy trinity. Budget Monster Hunter Tri G seems to be in line with others of the series. I just wish it did more since the game still hasn't reach the ltd sales of its handheld brothers.

Nice boost for the Vita. Hopefully we won't see it sub 10k in Japan for the rest of the year. I am predicting it will drop to 10-11k. At the worst I don't see it much below 9,000.

TL;DR

3DS is still doing very well.

Vita continues to do poorly.

The gains of the 3DS are compensating for the YoY decreases of PSP and DS and low overall Vita sales. (although, PSP is holding much better than the DS is)

3DS strong, but wait for Pokemon, MH4, Smash bros. Zelda etc.... It will sell 100m +

3DS LTD: 8.196.231
PS3 LTD: 8.489.917

PSP(2011 YTD)= 1,726,928
PSP+PSV(2012)=1,309,189(-24.2%)

This number is already bad... but when Vita "launches" (December 17th) it'll be horrendous. At least 10% less, maybe more.

I can safely say I prefer Famitsu numbers now because they include download cards. Animal Crossing is over a million already with Famitsu tracking. Can wait for me eShop direct leaks so we get the big picture.

Can't wait to see what Pokemon does next week. I'm hoping that game will be a million seller.

Nice 2nd week for Animal Crossing! And nice 3DS numbers!

so PS3 fights 3DS alone. sad sad sad. no comp. for the 3DS.
