This is a terrible idea since they made the most money this past gen. Even GC made them shit loads of money. Imagine if they made a console that got good/great 3rd party support AND had their 1st party games... Sony and MS would go out of business ;P

And as for Nintendo going 3rd party... That's such a bad idea I don't even know where to begin describing how bad it is. I'll say this: 3rd party games don't sell on Nintendo console because of their games (apparently). Noe, imagine Nintendo games on any other console. This would mean that no one would buy any games other than Nintendo's and 1st party games wouldn't sell at all.

So there's no room for a 3rd party Nintendo since no one else would be able to sell any games at all. THAT'S the next video game crash!!

Let's not get carried away now. Lol.

Haha j/k ing of course =)

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

To all of you who think I'm agains't Nintendo, I also think MS should do the same and believes they will. Xbox Live will be a service available on almost every devices providing games to those who want to play MS games.

I think to some extends, they will sell games on different platforms because selling more Xboxes won't get them more money, Xbox Live will get them the money and visibility they want. I think Sony with the aquisition of GaiKai will do the same but they might want to use this to promote their different hardwares pcs/phones/tvs/tablets/consoles.

Well, this settles it then. Nintendo will be the only console manufacturer from now on, Sony will stream their games on Wii U with Gaikai, Microsoft will make their games available on Wii U via an extended Xbox Live service.

Hahaha yea I see what you did there... it's also a possibility.

Only if their hardware suddenly stopped doing so well... and I mean if it took a drastic turn for the worst.

The simplest solution for having all the best games on one single platform is this: Third parties should make proper games for the Nintendo system.

even simplier -- nintendo lets retro go third party.

A creative way to troll Microsoft. *high fives kitler53*

Well to be honest, if you're buying a WiiU to play current gen games then more power to you, I would expect it to run games as much if not better than current hardware. Next gen though is a different story. We'll see how they fare agains't newer engines. If next gen hardware are comparable to WiiU and can't really run UE4 level games then it should be ok... but if they're way more capable and run engines that needs to be vastly downscaled to fit WiiU spec then you be the judge afterwards. Sony gets so much flack for having a game with a bit less resolution/blurryness/washed/etc than Xbox (like it's sooo much different it prevents one from playing), how will WiiU fare if it's specs and controls can't compare?

Again, it is comparing wii u to ps3 and 360. Wii u will already have the advantage in japan so it has nothing to worry about there. All the big wigs will be staying in nintendo's court. For the western market you assume developers will start boycotting the system because you think they can't make games for the gamepad. Firstly, as I pointed out earlier, there is a lot of flexibility in development options on wii u. A developer can choose to completely ignore the gamepad and put all the power to a game using the pro controller. Also you are ignoring that nintendo has had a big influence on the way forward this time. Kinect will likely be boxed in the next xbox as standard. So what about that?

Another major thing to note about the gamepad is Iwata said long ago they have built the gamepad to compete with apple. Nintendo are seeing a shift in market to smart phones and tablets. Epic have talked about developing for tablets so they would have absolutely no gripe with wii u. You might not like to accept it here but these controllers you claim nintendo is making for themselves are becoming the driving force of the market now. There is no reason the traditional controller can't exist with them but the casual market is worth big money and none of the big three will ignore that. in fact I expect sony to try something big to enter the casual market in an effort to regain their former glory. Nintendo's move with the wii proved that there is huge money to be made expanding outside gamers. So if you think nintendo are going to be the only ones using funky controllers that aren't suited to third party's needs next gen, your mistaken.

As a minor edit here, the problem isn't them not meeting third party needs. It is the consumers. I have heard a lot of developers complain about the limitations of dvd storage and microsoft's online not being flexible enough. Yet they get their heads round it because there is money to be made and money is the bottom line. Like I said before. Get consumers complaining to buy their games on nintendo when they are given the option and third parties won't care.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

how many of them know how to develop. market and make games? how many of them know how to run and manage a game development studio? anybody in these plethora of blogs and articles an experienced business man in game development?

@ the bolded section, if anybody of those people have ever played a game on a controller than played a game on a touch screen wouldnt believe that. play a mario game see how tight the controls are and then tell me if it works on a touch screen. excuse me but i would rather trust nintendo who has been in the industry for 30 years and over a journalist or bloger who knows nothing about the gaming indusrty, the gaming market, game development, gameplay, or any info about the costs of iOS game development or console or handheld game development, costs and profit in the short and long term other than what he read on IGN and gamespot.com

As a matter of fact, some of those people are indeed businessmen who know how to run a company. Even better, some of the people calling for Nintendo to make iOS games are actually Nintendo shareholders, and therefore Iwata's bosses. They, of all people, should have the clearest idea of how the company should proceed, seeing as how they literally own the company!

Hedge fund managers, investors, people who make games, people who critique them for a living and therefore are experts in the field... EVERYONE thinks Nintendo should make iOS games. It's sheer stubborness that's keeping us from enjoying Mario on our iPad. You can't even say controls are an issue, since this is the same company that shoehorned touch-only controls into Zelda, and who created an entire console dedicated to the wildly-inannacurate concept of waggle.

WiiU seems to be Wii all over again where 3rd parties will make bad games and shoddy ports from 720 and PS4 or they'll get ports from current gen initialy made for 360. You can read on WiiU spec threads especially the Digital Foundry one that people will get a WiiU specificaly for first party games mostly... anyway, Nintendo should stop... me too by the way hehehe...

Oh please.  Three days on the market and everyone's already writing WiiU off as "Wii" all over again?  Just a first party machine and nothing else?

This.  Thread.  Is.  So.  Mindnumbing.

Nintendo has survived NEC, SNK, Atari, and Sega just to name a few. They aren't going anywhere any time soon. It's more likely that Sony or Microsoft leave the market before Nintendo does. Nintendo has proven several times that they can support a console on almost 1st party alone. Sony and Microsoft 1st party games are great, but they just wont keep a console going on their own.

Edit: Opps forgot about Magnavox, Coleco, Mattel, and the 3DO Company.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Except this time Nintendo DOESN'T want to have its first party software carry WiiU alone.  Maybe this time they can defy their recent track record.
