Well to be honest, if you're buying a WiiU to play current gen games then more power to you, I would expect it to run games as much if not better than current hardware. Next gen though is a different story. We'll see how they fare agains't newer engines. If next gen hardware are comparable to WiiU and can't really run UE4 level games then it should be ok... but if they're way more capable and run engines that needs to be vastly downscaled to fit WiiU spec then you be the judge afterwards. Sony gets so much flack for having a game with a bit less resolution/blurryness/washed/etc than Xbox (like it's sooo much different it prevents one from playing), how will WiiU fare if it's specs and controls can't compare? |
Again, it is comparing wii u to ps3 and 360. Wii u will already have the advantage in japan so it has nothing to worry about there. All the big wigs will be staying in nintendo's court. For the western market you assume developers will start boycotting the system because you think they can't make games for the gamepad. Firstly, as I pointed out earlier, there is a lot of flexibility in development options on wii u. A developer can choose to completely ignore the gamepad and put all the power to a game using the pro controller. Also you are ignoring that nintendo has had a big influence on the way forward this time. Kinect will likely be boxed in the next xbox as standard. So what about that?
Another major thing to note about the gamepad is Iwata said long ago they have built the gamepad to compete with apple. Nintendo are seeing a shift in market to smart phones and tablets. Epic have talked about developing for tablets so they would have absolutely no gripe with wii u. You might not like to accept it here but these controllers you claim nintendo is making for themselves are becoming the driving force of the market now. There is no reason the traditional controller can't exist with them but the casual market is worth big money and none of the big three will ignore that. in fact I expect sony to try something big to enter the casual market in an effort to regain their former glory. Nintendo's move with the wii proved that there is huge money to be made expanding outside gamers. So if you think nintendo are going to be the only ones using funky controllers that aren't suited to third party's needs next gen, your mistaken.
As a minor edit here, the problem isn't them not meeting third party needs. It is the consumers. I have heard a lot of developers complain about the limitations of dvd storage and microsoft's online not being flexible enough. Yet they get their heads round it because there is money to be made and money is the bottom line. Like I said before. Get consumers complaining to buy their games on nintendo when they are given the option and third parties won't care.
One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D
