The number is lower than I expected considering Microsoft has very likely shipped at least 72.5 million at this point based on previous years and factoring in a decline.

Actually 595 million figure is for 31 March 2012. PS3 software now is over 660 million as of September 30.

Yet PS MOVE is considered a massive failure and Kinect a great success on VGC. Yeah right. This is much better than most people on this site believed.

ps3 is going to blow past 360 now. it has top exclusives next year and theres still massive 3rd party games to come. very impressive how the ps3 has been performing since 2009. people say it doesnt matter now but it does. if ps3 passes 360, sony will go into the next generation strong and microsoft will look weak having had their console released first and be behind both the wii and ps3 by the end of the gen. that doesnt look good on microsoft.

its because its true. At one time, the 360 had over 8 million lead on the PS3. Now, its a month worth of shipment, lol

People overestimate brand value.

Gamecube did terrible, Wii becomes one of the most successful consoles of all time (more successful than the ps2 considering how much money Ninty made compared to ps2).

Psp was quite successful, psvita is doing terrible

Xbox did terrible, 360 is a success especially thanks to profits from Live.

Ds became the best selling portbale console ever, 3ds is released and struggles until an unprecedented price cut (for ninty standards). Now it's doing incredible in Japan but mediocre everywhere else.

N64 fails to do as well as psone despite its successful predecessors and establised franchises.

Sega Saturn does ok (great in Japan, not so much in the west), dreamcast is an utter failure even in Japan.

How unprecedented is the acheivement of the 360? If anything, this should tell you that mostly internet people are brand loyal. The masses buy whatever they want and switch between consoles all the time.

Now how many companies have turned things around like Sony did after the initial disastrous sales of the ps3. Reminder: people said that it should be discontinued even on VGC  a few years ago and look at it now.
